I have just finished putting my SE Racing Retro Looptail Quadangle together.
Now everybody knows that these frames ONLY come in SE Racing blue....... Not this one.
As soon as these frames were released I knew what I was going to do, and I am really please with how it has turned out.
I have created, what I think is the ultimate retro BMX, on each of my previous retro builds I have always used some Old School parts to create the look. Not this time, I wanted to make an old school looking bike, but with completely new and up to date parts.
Here are the pictures...........

Looks great!
Is that powder coating on the rims? If so you might have some binding issues with braking over time. The pads will heat up enough to cause them to stick to the powder on the sides and the brakes will stay stuck until you pull them apart. That's why PC'd rims leave the rim edge bare.

Thanks for the kind comments guys, this bike really has turned out well, I am so happy with it.
Todd, I am glad you like it, I did say to you in an email recently that I would be building a different Quadangle. I have sent the pictures and details to the contact email on SEbikes.com.
Btpd22, I know what you mean about binding, I have had a few rims PC'd now and haven't had any problems yet, so I will keep my fingers crossed. If I get a problem then I will probably take the braking surface back to bare aluminium. Fortunately I don't use the brake too often (not usually going fast enough, LOL).

Who did the chrome? I've been thinking about that for some time. I always wanted a chrome looptail Quad as a kid... I had a reynolds Quad chromes locally as a kid, and it was horrible. Especially around the bottom bracket and head tube, it almost looked copper or gold tinted, like they never polished it out or something. I was extremely disappointed and sold the bike.
Not to be a copycat, but a chrome looptail was always my dream bike as a kid. If I knew where to go to get a first class job done, I'd do it. Chrome or not, I see a color change coming before I build mine... metallic gold, an old SE color is my #1 choice for paint... white would probably be my next choice. I had a blak looptail as a kid, and have briefly considered going that route as well...
Gotta get another frame decal too...

Thats a mighty big claim to make , for such a bland looking bike. Or is the contrast on my monitor turned up waay too high...
I can see plenty of time effort & money put into the build , the parts list is impressive , but asthetically the bike does nothing for me.
Matt & I have 2 Quads in our coral , so it's not as if I don't like or appreciate them....somethings missing in the colour contrast department , if your wanting an 80's retro racer look..
To each their own...

Sprinter, the chrome was done over here in the UK.
JB, there is only so much you can do if you have a lot of chrome on a bike. I maybe could have piled loads more blue on the bike, but I like to think that I have very good but understated colour co-ordination. The easiest thing to do with colours on a bike is go too far, less is definately more.

Great job, and definetly the best retro Quad so far. Maybe not alot of color contrast, but you get extra points for thinking outside the typical blue/black combo. I think I'm a little jealous. Quad envy?
What's this TL, a chromed out SE for '08? Are you TRYING to send me to the poor house?
Well, at least I know I'll be ridin' the coolest lookin' bikes on the way there.

Putting aside the era of parts on a retro re-issue quad and work put into it, i really have to give you a big "YUK" on this one....
Original anodised parts would have been far better, even though you're trying to be "out there" with the chrome frame....the colour contrast and balance would have far enhanced the bike compared to what it is now.
Something about pastal colouring on 'non freestyle' bikes just doesnt work !
Sorry, but that's my view ;-)

Just going back to Sprinters need of another frame decal... I need one as well. Does SE have replacments available? Local SE be able to help or have to go higher?
Well done Stidds, fantastic end result.

Super clean build you've got going on there. That thing looks light and fast! It truely looks retro 80's to me. Definitely my favorite retro quad so far.

SeanC73 & Sprinter, I took my frame decal off very carefully using the wifes hairdryer to heat it. I then stuck it on a mirror for safe keeping.

You got the bling bling going on there.
Nice to see someone taking the time to do something different with the frame, even though I like the blue that it was originaly. The powdered parts look great.
Party on stidds...
