Todd Lyons
Well, not really all the way unveiled yet, but here's a link to a sneak peek:

http://www.dcshoes.com/home.asp?section=seracing

The official roll out is scheduled for May 24th in Los Angeles. This is definitely going to be cool.
COASTY
Very cool of everyone involved. I was lucky enough to see the "removed" pics of the complete bike. I was very impressed. Nice work guys.
Capt. Nemo
Now for the REAL question.

Where can I get one?
dayride
If I buy one will I be allowed to take it to the NO BIKES ALLOWED DC/Dyrdek Skate Park located five minutes down the road from my house??
TuRBo Todd Britton
I wouldn't buy anything from anyone who prevents bikes from being in parks..... Hear that DC?
Capt. Nemo
I've really been trying to figure out what DC has to gain with this project. It's definately a sharp lookin' bike, but when I think SE, DC Shoes isn't the first thing that pops into my mind, and vice versa.

I've also heard, that the bike will set you back a cool grand if you can locate one.

Who is DC really marketing these to? The hip and trendy urbanites, ( who probably don't know or even care about SE's roll in BMX) or are they trying to get the old schoolers to stop wearing Vans, and switch to DC?

I can understand SE's and Todd's desire to get the bike "hipsters" to embrace SE, and have it become a brand that appeals to the old and nuevo crowd at the same time.

I guess, at this point I'm a bit confused. Plus, what seems to be the underlying difficulty in obtaining one of these bikes, may frustrate more people than actually bring them in. Time will tell.

All I know is, being a lifelong SE fan, I want one, but I'm not sure southeastern Wisconsin is "hip" enough to find a store that is carrying them. I'll be on the phone this week with potential dealers to find out for sure.

The bottom line is SE seems to understand how important BMX roots are and how deep those rivers run.
It reminds me of the DG California. That bike was insanely expensive and although tons wanted one, only a few got one.
I wouldnt be suprised if the complete full bike is followed up later by frame kits or frame sets.
SeanC73
The more I read about the DC Ripper the more I think that DC mite be going to use them as part of an instore display/promotion. It may be that the only way to get one would be to be nice to one of their boutiquey store owners. Im with Capt Nemo with the DC/SE being a strange fit. Imagine a Vans Ripper!
Look at it this way. If I was riding down the street on my 07 loop Quad(#135) and I saw someone headn the other way on a DC Ripper, it mite be that only one of us really appreciates the historical significance of both bikes/icons. I can sleep well on that. 30 years indeed.

yes... it's going to be very cool!

Pluck DC and their bad attitude towards bikers. I wont wear their shoes or support any thing else that they put their brand on.

Secret Spin
wonder if i can get one in time for the quaker state nat's. i will plaster it in vans stickers, throw some clips on and smoke everyone in 28&over X on it. might havta drop the gear some too. haha
npsarider
so how can we get the shoes and where
BIG AL
Getting the shoes will be easy. They probably have tons of them.Getting the bike that started all this talk.Mission impossible.
I am sure there are not enough to go around.
The 150 that are ready for release are as good as gone. The people in charge at DC know what they are doing. It is about the money.
DC is in the business of selling shoes and clothing.
So I don't see them worried if anyone here gets a bike. They just want us to buy their shoes.
The people they have in research will be reading
everything we post.I hope they realize we are to old to play these games.
The people that will appreciate the bike the most might never own one.The friends of the owners
and their kids will get one. It is not what you know it is who you know.
TIM
ahhh, the bitterness. such a breathe of fresh air. it is a talent to make a cool thing putrid. congratulations!

total bikes 200-250. total shoes 2000-2500. info right from the source.
Capt. Nemo
Ummm, try 150, only 80 in the states, Tim.

Info- right from "The Wildman."

I'm not bitter, since I KNOW I'll be getting the SE version. I'm just not as flexible anymore to jump through hoops.
Todd Lyons
This is not a money making deal for DC. Only 150 bikes for the WHOLE world. And only 10 pairs of shoes per bike. Do the math. That's 1,500 pairs of shoes. That's probably what some of their skate shoes sell in a month.

This project has been in the works for over a year. I've been working with DC's head honcho the whole way through. And I can tell you first hand that he is passionate about old school BMX. He's had so many good ideas to incorporate into this project. You'll see.

Like I said. Only 150 bikes in TOTAL. So even if DC was marketing directly to VintageBMX.com members, odds are you still wouldn't get one.

Well, unless you were my friend...

Sorry, couldn't resist! LOL...
TIM
am i your friend, Todd?
guest_070901
oh no, Mr. Bill.
Do we have a TL race bike being added to the majestic old pro Race stable?????

I hear the ground rumbling a bit, TIM going retro.
BenOr
I sent you and our mutual friend email Todd.

I was confused for a minute, checked the forum title again & realized I'm not the one lost.
TIM
you'll know why i'm interested on May 25th...
guest_070901
ha, I knew you didn't venture out of the cafe accidentally.

Well my quess is your mutual friend will have initials of JU.

I would have liked to see Stu in the marketing for the quad project. Reilly should photochop something cool for The TL.
GFR Industries
I figured as much but I have to admit it was kinda twilight zone-ish seeing you posting in here since this isn't your forte. If you start asking for JC info I'll know you've lost your mind completely.
Woody's Hot Rods
Todd,

I have known you since around 82-83. Does that make me a friend? Remember those days of the trick ramp back in Olentangy commons?

Joe
Todd Lyons
Joe,
You mean the ramps that the Mid Ohio Trick Team used to ride? Russel Tschimpke, my brother (Brad), Dave Demattis, and Dave Fenstermaker? Those ramps? No, I don't remember. LOL...
Chris C.
If we're throwing around dates, I think Todd, we've known each other that long as well . . . thinkin back to the indoor and outdoor tracks in Lexington, OH. Must have been the same, early 80s time period.

By the way, it's just really cool to see a guy I consider a local to be so heavily involved in the sport and making a positive difference. I am doing just fine, but am a little jealous you were able to make a career out of this stuff.
Trosperparkbmxer
All right.....who do I have to pimp my sister out to, to get one of these things???
Todd Lyons
Send me a photo & I'll see what I can do....
dugga
Alright... enough teaser pics. I know I shouldn't be showing you this but it's time the truth came out.
I thought it was weird a bike company was partnering with a shoe company but who am I to judge?
Here it is, the DC Shoes / SE bikes 30th Anniversary PK Ripper.
Mattblack
On ya Dugga
He he

Are they clip shoes?
NBKA-SENSEI

Oh my, how did these slip out of the factory already? amazing what can be found in a kid's closet.

Capt. Nemo
Has anybody checked out the DC site lately? Cool interviews with Eric Rupe, Jeff Utterback, and others about the impact of SE and the PK on BMX and BMX culture.

Can't wait for that clock to hit zero...
guest_070901
Let's hear some feedback on the party!
Tim?

the big E pointed out all of these sites are just like BMX tracks, so here is some crossover info to get the party kickin!

npsarider
where can i order the shoes ,ant find them on their site
Capt. Nemo
Now that we've had the big reveal, where and when can we get the stuff?
rsrichie
ho hum old news i revealed this info nearly a month ago with a link on this site and was cencored by the powers that be. I was even convinced by DC public relations people to remove it from my own site for the betterment of the release. No one from SE or DC had the decency to contact me and advise of this release even after i had done the right thing by SE and DC. Thanks for nothing guys I should have just let the exclusive run as you obviously dont care about the little guys its all money and bussines. You have lost the true meaning of our cummunity and are now shamelesly profiting on our desire to relive our childhood. Time for you took a step back SE and DC and remember what the true feeling of being a BMXer is all about.
My delema now is that i like the new bike and want one but i am torn as to weather to track one down or say stuff ya.
Todd Lyons
rsichie,
You say:

"Time for you took a step back SE and DC and remember what the true feeling of being a BMXer is all about."

-I am the brand manager at SE Bikes. I have been riding/racing/jumping BMX bikes since 1981. Competed in 25 countries, been in 9 X-Games, been World Champion a few times, currently ranked World #8 in the 35+ class, and still ride a plenty. I live, eat, and breathe BMX.

I worked on this DC/PK Ripper project for over a year.

You say that I:

"obviously dont care about the little guys its all money and bussines."

Check this thread:

http://www.vintagebmx.com/cgi-bin/ultimate...c;f=23;t=000215

-Get your facts straight rsrichie before you post again & look like a fool....
swbuf
As I was looking at the link for DC, they have 'team' dropdown, and then 'BMX'-are they really that disconnected from the sport? (I'm not up on current racing)
I'll be honest, I'm a diehard Vans type of guy, but it looks like there was a considerable effort to make this happen-my hat goes off to all involved. Jon
Capt. Nemo
Hey Todd, don't sweat this guy's nonsense. Sound's to me, he is just agitated that he couldn't get the scoop sooner than DC was willing to release the info.

For someone who claims to care about the old school bmx movement, why deny the build-up and excitement about this project?

So I guess it is now a CRIME to want to make money? Tell that to all the old school guys selling there wares, that they picked up at garage sales for pennies on the dollar, to collectors willing to pay 100 times as much, without batting an eye. I guess what bothers him, is that it is "corporate" money that's being made, and not his.

How much money do you think DC is gonna make on a 150 bikes? They probably make more money in one day selling their normal line of shoes than they will on this whole project. If they wanted to cash in, they would have made as many as the market would bare, which I'm sure is WAY over 150.

I personally want to thank Todd, SE, and DC for progressing the vintage BMX movement, and giving us old guys something to get excited about. New school bike, with old school looks, which demand to be ridden, instead of collecting dust in someone's basement.

You had to figure someone was gonna get their undies in a bunch.
66alfa_gtv
ok...i'm a bit confused here. The bike looks outstanding. I see Tim is giving positive props to it.
Tim, I thought you were not a big fan of the retro BMX thing?
rsrichie
Todd i dont care if you are Jesus Christ the fact still stands that i had the opportunity to display the pics well over a month ago and at the request of DC i chose not to. So after me doing the right thing by you guys you dont even have the decency to drop me a small email and say hey thanks for holding back the thread on your site if you wish to reinstate it feel free to do so as of a certain date.
If you and others think i am fool for saying what i beleive then so be it, but i am certainly not going to waste any more of my breath on this as no matter what i say you being a big time whatever you will allways receive greater support than a nobody like me.
Capt. Nemo
So, you are saying your nose is bent because you didn't get a thank you for doing something you should have done in the first place?

If you've read ANY of threads regarding this project, you had to of known that SE and DC were holding back until a proper anouncement worthly of this special project could be properly prepared.

Instead you "leaked" the photos anyway, and then were politely asked to remove them. As was Vintage and OS-BMX. Now , you feel dissed because you didn't get a "thank you"? Dude, grow up! This whole little man VS. the big corporation sounds like sour grapes. You didn't/don't hear Bill and Steve whining about having to pull the photos. You don't hear them begging for a thank you. They did the right thing and so did you. That should be enough.

Totally agree with RSRICHIE...and on another thread STRANGELING!
I've posted this before...everyone totally bags the new "Chinese/Taiwanese" made bikes such as Mongoose. And the new SE's are somehow better because?
No one is denying SE the right to make money...they are a business. They are however totally cashing in on the retro craze. Don't kid yourselves thinking they're doing it for the 'old guys'.
Capt. Nemo
Howard, you need to check out the racing forum about who's trashing what. Whenever the question is asked about a good race complete, Redline is almost always mentioned in high regard. And I'm pretty sure they are made in China. People bag on Mongoose, not because they are made in China, but because most are POORLY made in China.

If cashing in means supplying a product that people want, then by all means, keep cashing in. I guess Skyway, Haro, Schwinn, and countless other brands "cashed in" BITD, when they saw a demand for BMX items and tried to meet that demand. The "hey-day" of BMX was sustained by companies wanting to "cash in." Just the same way some people are "cashing in" all over e-bay selling our memories and passion for vintage bmx items to the highest bidder. Or selling bootleg repop crap to a rabid fan base that doesn't know any better, or doesn't care, because they are supposedly filling a niche. Hypocracy knows no bounds.

This is a stupid arguement....

I don't see this as a stupid argument.I don't see it as an argument...it's a discussion.
I agree with you about companies "cashing in" that's good business. I don't agree with the way SE are acting like they're doing it to 'help out' the older riders. Helping them keep those memories going. They're not! They've seen an opening in the market and are simply marketing it well by appealing to peoples emotions. What's poorly built about the new Mongooses?
They're all TIG welded aluminium (the Al ones anyway). The welds look every bit as nice as those on the SE's. I wouldn't be surprised to find out they all come out of the same factory. Infact...I'd be more surprised if they didn't!
It's all in the marketing! The other companies couldn't give a toss about the retro/oldschool scene so SE kind of have a monopoly on it.
Seems to me it's a really small market they're catering to of which they know some people will spend ridiculous amounts of money to get these bikes.
Strange how anytime SE gets brought up in a bad light on this forum the thread gets pulled. Any other brands....no one cares?
