Was reading about these in Decline mountain/dirtjumping rag last night.

Haven't seen any in person but I'm wondering if any of you guys have. looks like you can run them singlespeed, not sure of the spacing though(110, 135mm or 150mm). Would look pretty cool on a baby blue Quadzilla!

The spacing specs are on the order form.
now, since I am ignorant on the subject, will they fit a cruiser?

I have seen them. they look pretty cool, and are VERY pricey. They feature a hollow spoke design which keeps them light. pretty stiff wheel for a 26"!

With todays rim, hub and spoke selection I don't see why anyone would want the extra weight of a mag wheel other than appearance. I don't imagine they are much stronger than a good spoked wheelset can be built. If not mistaken the cost is over $1000.00 per pair.
cw
purely a mtb application. 135mm rear, disc only.
if they did do a 100/110 10mm axle, the weight would come down some...... but am i reading that right? 8.2 lbs for a pair? all one piece, thermoplastic composite at 4 lbs a wheel has to be strong/stiff, but impractical for anything but dh.

Sweet wheels!
Too much for my pocket, maybe someday.
Thanks for the link.

I saw them at Sea Otter. They're honeycombed with all kinds of braces, which is cool, but they weigh as much as a prize pig. They had a new Rotec downhill bike with them on it. Super trick, but that thing may as well have had a motor in it...certainly heavier than a lot of 125s.

I did lift the wheel by itself...it's like CW says: tank-tastic. Really heavy. Impractical even for downhill, where you can buy lighter, stiffer 32 spoke wheels. Nice looking, but a freak show. Would be cool looking on a 26" cruiser, but they are indeed only 135mm spacing (though they must have 150mm too for downhill bikes...I know that Rotec wasn't 135mm).

there's also these things that are always on Ebay...
a little bit cheaper...

Yeah, those things are nasty. That's why they were starting at .99 when they first hit Evilbay.
I've seen them in person, and the quality is worse than the chop job repairs on those FM Flyer Frames special project. Really, really rough, and where the spokes hit the hub part, is only looks partially welded. No, those things are weak.
Cool looking from far away, but no, no, no...
If they were free, than that would be a different story. Spacing issues too for BMX.

Yowsa , thems some spendy TAG mags , the "sacrificial casting" method they claim to use to make each wheel is interesting to say the least....I wonder what steel alloy has a low enough melting point & the mechanical strength to keep it all together when 4 pounds of hot liquid "composite material" is injected into the mould & let set. Once the composite material has set , they then re heat up the entire wheel to get the now molten metal "mantle" to pour out of the "composite material" wheel..... Someone at TAG is both a metalurgical & polymer casting wizard.
Nothing like the way Tuffs are made , eh Ed ?

"Lost Core Molding" great marketing buzzword for what is essentially a 100 to 1000+ year old process called "sacrificial casting"

They remind me of my 20 inch 5 spoke THUG mags which are cast in 2 halves then joined together, you can clearly see the join on the THUG's but I could probably sand & polish the join out if properly motivated , a trip to their manufacturing plant would be very enlightening to anyone who has even a mild interest in casting "stuff"

I don't think I'll be buying a set of TAG mags to throw onto my 26inch GT cruiser at any price.

I did a scaled down experiment on my Totally Aerodynamic 20 inch bike by fitting aerodynamic mags to it.

A paradox & conflict of interests to say the least.

I'm pretty sure that the TAG wheels will work on my 1982 GT

Hey nice tassels!!!
Jet Black
NOS Summit brand tassles made in Japan , they came in a lot of BMX parts I bought a while back.Good quality stuff , I got 3 sets left still.
They were fun to fit onto my bike in moto's where there was no competition in the lineup , blitzing the field , getting big air & showing off with streamers hanging outta my handlebars.

Now they help out when I'm in doing wind tunnel testing or riding around tooled up looking for fight club wannabe's to get cash off to feed my BMX habit

Ed Ferri will get probably arrange for some Skyway goons to come round & beat me up with phone books for doing this to what is normally our "Andy Patterson" style XL TA race bike <heh>

I saw those Mags at Sea Otter too and they might be the heaviest 26" wheels made. I don't think those will be around long.

Heavy rolling wheels , especially around the outer tire area make for _lots_ of Inertia & Momentum...and serious fun & carnage. I've tried it with 20inch wheels using heavy tubes tires & air/filler mixture.

Running a similar set of heavy 26in wheels up to speed would get you more carnage & fun , it's the single speed gearing that will cause you problems....
