OK, I got my Skyway Graphites and my Ted Carl Flanges. How did you glue, epoxy, Jb Weld those sweet puppies on???

None of the above... silicon. Clear silicon, in a tube, like caulking, from Wal-Mart. I think we got the waterproof type, I forget, I've had them on for over a year now...

what are Ted Carl flanges? Isn't Ted Carl a guy from MN...

I used silicon from a pet store. The kind that they use for aquariums, works perfectly.
Ted Carl flanges are gold flanges that one would use to give the new Tuffs that "old school" look. Very nice stuff, they look great!

Pipe, it sounds like you need to spend less time at the casino. TC has been selling these for years!

I used a hot glue gun. They're not coming off anytime soon, if ever.

The Ted Carl from Mn. does these.. Is that what your saying, SPringboard

Yup Ted makes the retro flanges KoP. they make the new school graphites look 100% better!

Ted was able to turn a good idea into reality , after a lot of discussion & input from the tech & restoration crowd.

Those rule for sure. I told someone who had Graphites about those and he was stoked and bought some.
Now, you know what else would be cool...
Some bolts that give the Campy track nut and chrome axle look.

And they are not just for Graphites. I took Teds new age hubs and sprayed them blue then put them on white Tuffs. I did blue hubs before and those that seen it said "it can`t be paint". Remember this bike?

Lou, I have read more than once that Ted's hub covers won't work on non-graphites. I guess that isn't true. Say more about the fit. Would you say it was "perfect" or "close enough"?

I have a feeling the convertable hub Tuffs are going to get popular. Maybe Skyway can make them in other colors besides white.

It looks like the flanges will fit onto any "new" coloured Tuffs that have sealed bearings in them .
I don't think Skyway would incurr the extra cost of making a differnt sealed bearing unit to cast into their coulured Tuffs & a different sealed bearing unit for the graphite ones.
From Lou's pix , it seems that the sealed bearing non graphite or Coloured Tuff's miss out on the gold annodising treatment...or have you ripped out a set of graphite sealed bearing hubs , done some _major_ polymer surgery & caustic soda dipping off the gold annodising to make up a set of sealed bearing white Tuff's with a plain alloy finish there , Lou ???
Hmm , Blue sealed bearing tuffs with Gold flanges , Black sealed bearing tuffs with Red flanges , Yellow sealed bearing Tuffs with Black flanges (I'm pretty sure I can properly blacken Aluminium now , not just paint it)
I'm off to have a look at Ed's site to see what he's got in stock.....

Looks like Colored Tuffs stock market might go up. You`re going to do flanges in some other colors besides gold? What about the hubs on the wheel? Put me down for 2 sets of blue flanges

Lemme sort this out , Lou
Are the unanodised/raw flanges on your sealed bearing white Tuffs made by Ted Carl ?
If they are raw finish & riveted Ted Carl Flanges , then making blue flanges / red / black / chrome flanges , is no problemo. The rivets might look odd on the chrome flanges tho.....nevermind.
You can even get the raw finish sealed bearing alloy housing area on those white Tuffs (that is normally gold on the graphites) a perfect match to the blue / red / black / chrome flanges.
All you need is the raw finish riveted Ted Carl Flanges
_if_ thats whats on those white Tuff's in the picture.
Putting colour onto/into raw Al is....."fairly" easy , you'd be up to the task yourself , I think.

You could bombard Ted with PM's asking for "raw finish" flanges with the rivets installed , that may convince him to do a run of them......
If I was into 24 inch cruisers , I'd buy a set of black Tuffs offa Ed & fit a set of gold flanges to them , instant 24 inch graphite tuffs , that flex a bit.....
_but_
It seems that the sealed bearing Colored Tuff's (as shown by Lou above) that have a male allen bolt to hold them in place will accept the flanges.
Have a look at the colour of the new school DX pedals on my 26inch GT cruiser below , thats the pretty much the shade of blue finish you will get on the alloy flanges.

All the other blue bits on the bike range from NOS to the nicely faded 1980 originals parts I've owned since new.
BTW That shonky fitted NOS Elina seat is getting replaced with an old school leather Italian race bike seat. I'll take a leather or suede seat over any Nylon bike seat anyday.
JB
I bought raw flanges from Ted and bought convertable hub Tuffs from Ed at a very good price. I`m not sure if the hubs will fit the colored Tuffs unless the hubs are like the convertable ones.

Are they making colors now? I have a set in silver and have only seen them in silver.

Funny this should come up....
I was considering doing a small run of black and white convertible hub tuffs with annodized blue and red hubs, and I talked to Ted Carl about making matching flanges......
I think it would look killer.....
Also....
When we do the new T spoke 24's, the new colored ones will use the convertible hubs. I'm hoping that we can do a add-on flange thing with those.....
We'll see!

I'll make a note that it's the "convertable" hubs I'll be wanting on any new Tuffs I order of Ed to mix & match the assorted coloured Aluminium flange's on.
Excellent news all round tho & thanks for confirming it.
Sorry Walter , yer only going to see the new DX's in that factory Silver , you can't buy them in any other colour , IMHO the factory silver finish looks really lame. Hence the Blue , Black , Red new school sets that I have done myself.
I got sick of the constant grindy noises that my old school DX's made , no matter how well I refurbished them with new 5/32 bb's , assorted grease's & cleaned up the race surfaces...
Once you run sealed bearing DX pedals , you soon figure it's going to be easier to put some colour into these new smooth rollers , than make the legends that I have owned for 25 odd years run smooth
After 25 years of severe duty service they deserve to retire gracefully & come out for the occasional show.
I suppose you all want to know how to get colour into Aluminium yourself & avoid sending them out to be annodised by others ..... Try searching then asking in the Tech & Restoration section
JB
Ed and Ted, keep me posted with the white vert/blue anno hub sets. I`m very interested. Is this a definate or just a thought? I won`t spray my hubs, I`m holding out for the "new" real ones.

Ahh yes.
Colors....
I am still leaning heavily towards the fact that they were designed to look like OS Campy Graphites. Gold and Black.
Colors would be cool, and Lou proves it is cool with his work on them, but there was no such thing bitd. So they become something different from what they started out to be. They become a campy looking hub in red on a white wheel.
FWIW.... since I am at a serious lack of spare time lately, it's going to be a "Strip em, and dip'em" yourself, for other colors in the near future near as I can tell, cuz they aren't a high volume item, they are still a low volume hand made deal by me, myself , and I, and all the time it takes to make them still comes out of my personal time budget. And that's pretty much bankrupt lately...lol
For now, modify them as you see fit. But like Henry Ford once said, "They come in any color you want, as long as it is gold". (er, sort of)
But they can be gotten direct and easy now off my site.
www.maidenusammp.comCheers.

BTW, someone bought 2 sets of silver blanks (a long time ago) that were going to get done up in red and blue, and they were going to be sent back for the rivets.
I havent seen them, and I forgot who bought them? Sup with them now? I need a reminder, just send em back and I'll rivet them up.
But it also drives the point home on how much more complicated it gets with "special orders".
Know what I mean!?
