Jarvi
This is my first retro inspired build and thanks for Velocidad for letting me know about this frame and forks. Don't think I will forget the day I picked it up last April as I returned to the track from the emergency room with a broken collar bone and bought it. A day of highs and lows.

Wasn't sure what to do with it at first and then got the idea to polish the rear end like the mid to late 80s freestyle bikes. That and the fact I couldn't be bothered doing the whole frame. Also a similar theme with the bars and stem. Roberto then powdercoated the rest of the frame, bars, stem cap and forks. Finally taught myself to use Illustrator and did the vinyl cut decals. One set plus a couple of spares was all that was produced.

As the summer weather is starting to disppear here in Melbourne I took the opportunity of heading down to the beach for a ride with a friend. A pleasant couple of hours and then a few photos, hence the dust/sand on the bike. Hope you enjoy the snaps.

Parts list:

Frame - mid 90s (I think) PK Ripper
Forks - Landing Gear stamped
Bars - GT
Stem - Salt
Grips - A'me
Headset - Cane Creek
Wheels - Tuffs with sealed bearings
Tyres - GT
Cranks - no name three piece with sealed bottom bracket
Chainwheel - Sugino 44t
Pedals - Victor VP550
Brakes - Tektro
Seatpost - Primo Rod
Seat - Odyssey Aitken

I tried some gumwall tyres but surprisingly they just didn't look right. They were 1.75 which might have been the problem because Landing Gear forks need a bigger tyre in my opinion.

Thanks go out to Velocidad, Roberto, Ed at ColoredTuffs, Serva, Bradster and a few shops.

I see a potential lake jump at the end of that boardwalk. Cool color scheme.

You mention "Illustrator" for the decals?
Could you elaborate on that?
I've a decal project to get started for a retro build and I'd be extremely curious how you did yours?
lowchin
Im also curious about the illustrator decal stuff,
maybe another thread?

Sweet jarvie.I love it ..good breed mixing!!!llustrator is a computer program linked with vinyl die cutting machine. Some companies that have this capability well not do some scans due to copy right infringement!

Thanks for all the comments. Illustrator is an Adobe product used for creating graphics etc. Any graphics software package would do the job as long as you can save in a format the printer can use. I then just used a tracing function to create the head and seat tube and the others are fonts so that makes it easy. If you haven't used grpahics software before I suggest waiting for the autorised ones. I needed to learn how to use it for other projects so this was a good excuse. I probably would have used the forthcoming decals but got sick of waiting and I have had this build finished for a while. I have others that I will wait and use the authorised decals on which I think are due late spring. And besides, this build was a mix of SE, Haro, freestyle, race, 80s, 90s, 00s so I thought a slightly custom set was perfect. As I said, one set was made for personal use with some spares.

Jerry that's a harsh comment. You should have seen the girls lined up watching me for the photo shoot. Only joking and just wishing. First grey hair at 21 and with my 40th next month they have taken over...

Yeah Illustrator rocks, I've been using it for years for all sorts of projects. There are benefits if you learn the program, full artistic licence to create what ever you want. Make customised versions for your own bike.

Stickers are first scanned and traced over using the drawing tools. This allows you to clean up the lines and avoid those horrible pixelated prints.

Jarvi , you got a slick looking 2 wheel muscle car to cruise around the beach's on & enjoy whats left of the summer , shame about the lack of sheila's , it must have been a week day , that bike should be a gash magnet.

Very cool. Love the colour scheme.

Great PK James, always nice to cruise along the bay path. I miss living around there - I used to ride that path after work every night in the summertime before I got old and moved to the suburbs.

Cool ride, J!
Not too tech-y, and defintiely a sharp and unique color scheme. Great lines, etc.

Well done - look slike it was made for "beach lurking".

Have fun with that
