Sweet lookin' bike. If I were more of a freestyle guy, I would have jumped at ALL the Haro retros.

Everyone should have an attic like that!

Another one is out! A 2005 Haro sport. I think this is the best looking bike of the bunch. Arent' this the coolest looking bikes ever?
Bosanova Bill

I actually found this guy, that had a whole bunch of them. He sold me both those for about $230.00 a piece. I couldnt' believe it. I really nice guy I met on Vintage. How could I pass that up. So I bought one of each.

Check out the Slim Jim Edition Haro.. #10, out of 250 made.. Signed by Dave M.

That 2005 Sport looks _really_ sweet.
25 years of evolution & innovation.

Is the 2005 Sport the bike Bob Haro really wanted to be riding circa 1980 ?

The cable brakes today are almost good enough to replace a coaster brake for most old school tricks.

JB

<self indulgence , fantasy , memories & ideas follow>

If I had a time machine I would take a few 2005
Haro Sport's to share around on a west coast skatepark tour in US with Coast & I myself in our
then immortal bodies ~ 1981 & live the park life all over again.

This time , things would be very very different

I think Bob Morales is on a Torker here , which was a great combo skatepark & street riding frame. I'll let him ride one of the 2005 sports no worries.

We wanted & tried to make pegs back then , but had no idea on how to properly engineer them to meet the task & not break , in hindsight they seem so simple now.

Jeff Watson on a 2005 Haro , we'd let him run whatever pegs , wherever he wanted. Pipeline
was a Mecca for us in Australia back then.

Gary was cool enough to us when he visited here ,
We'll loan him a 2005 Haro Sport for his demo riding
& put JMC & Van's stickers on it.

Go nuts stranger , try & clear the fence , it dosen't matter if you break this bike we lent you

Unfortunately the magazine photo of me here got cropped waay to much , but I'd still be able to let it all hang out whilst grabbing plenty of airtime on a 2005 Haro Sport.
Twin top tubes , twin down tubes , it's all the same when your up there.

I still have the twin downtube BBR bike as a rider & a much better brake setup..

Anyone got a working time machine , I'd really like to try this out.

I'll admit, I like the retro's better than the real old school ones. Those pics are hot.

The full pipe sequence, whate magazine is that from>? Never seen that.
Jet Black
Both the Jeff Watson photo & motodrive sequence is from Action Now magazine , it rose from the ashes of Skakeboarder magazine ~1980. I still got all the issues ~ 13 or so from memory.

King of Pipeline , hmmm when was your reign ?

A part list of Matt & My collection.
2007 Loop Quad
1997 Quadangle.
2005 GTA San Andrea's limited edition.
1984 XL TA
198? Patterson Long
1982 26 inch GT
198? Zoot Scoot
1977 Monoshock
+ more, all our bikes stand out in the crowd &
are always up for some action.
We have a fetish for Bottema forks....

Any bike that stands out or has character is cool.

Your 2005 Haro Sport fits the criteria , & is the pick of the litter that you posted here , hence my self indulgent skatepark trip getting tagged into your thread.

As far as human powered tranport goes ,
the bicycle in any form , is the best invention ever created , may it continue to evolve in every direction it wants or needs.

cheers

Here's a couple old 2 hip Pork frame.. You wouldn't believe how big the tubing is on these. I remember asking Ron, why are those called pork,, he said, cause they are fat.....
Jet Black
If you took the padding out of my Big Cheese Frame Pad it _might_ just wrap around that top tube , as long as you cut a hole in the pad to clear the brake mount.
No idea of the era/timeframe when these Cheese pads were made. I saw them with a BIN on Ebay & slammed the PP button to grab em , too cool to pass up for US$25....& perfectly suited for the GTA-SA Gangster bike.

Pork & Cheese (BIG) it's a good start.

You want build up a virtual bike made of edible parts in a new thread ?
There has to be other edible bike bits made while I was away from BMX , learning , earning & now semi retired....from ~1985 to now.

I gotta hand it to the marketing people with the new part names they came up with & the engineering guys for making BMX brakes that work properly for a 220lb 6ft tall bloke while I was away taking care of business
in the all too real world.

That picture and sequence of Jeff Watson is just plain nuts. Action Now...I had ONE of those magazines and remembered seeing some Bob Haro photos in there...James Cassimus of course. I really wish I had bought a subscription to that way back then. I don't believe I have that magazine anymore, not sure where it went.

Strike your right about the top Haro photo coming out of Action Now , April 1981 All Photo Edition with James Casimus (AN Photo Editor) & his 600mm telephoto Nikon camera on the cover , Dean Bradley was also a contributor as well.
I just dug up my collection off 15 issues AN issues for a look thru & am thinking about doing a straight 8 run of individual scan's from Jeff Watsons pipeline sequence....
It really is a good set of shots , whole set of mags is full of good photo's that rarely show up in the areas I usually frequent around here....

Matt just told me that , skatepark stuff , belongs in the Vintage Freestyle Section , maybe I should have a look there...but IMHO , Vintage Freestyle was something you did when you were too cut/scabbed up to ride a park or it was for the land lubbing pansies who were too scared to ride a skatepark on a board bitd & when they got into a BMX they didn't have the balls to turn up at a skatepark & go head to head with the skateboard riders there.
I would have been < 13 when I started to ride both a board & a bike at the skatepark , as I started to bulk up , riding BMX bikes in skateparks was a much better rush than riding a skateboard , big easy air , insane transitions that no one would ever contemplate on a skateboard , why grind when you can fly ? BMX & skateparks were the only way to go , I kinda lost interest in skateboards real quick.....

I've probabably made a real mess of Pipelines thread here , where do the transitional guys like me hang out & post the photo's from the late 1970's & early 1980's when skating died off & BMX started to really rip up the scene , both in the US & Australia ???

Yeah , I came unstuck a "few" times when pushing too hard or trying something new for the camera's , it was all unexplored territory for us here , back then....that bowl was at least 12 foot deep & I am not quite in full control of the situation at this point <heh>

JB
COASTY
I've never seen those Jeff Watson pics before either. Nice. BTW the second pic is Eddie Fiola not Bob Morales.
So when you gonna finish this time machine? I wanna go now.
Jet Black
It would be a cool trip to take Coasty. A 1980's west coast skatepark tour , young + immortal again with a bunch of new school bikes + plus our old faithful rides.
With an Australian $1 that buys US $1.30.

I perfected & built several flux capacitors in the late 1990's , unfortunately the Time Line Cops sniffed out the (unknown to me) time distortions/rips I was making inside of Microwave Ovens with the flux caps , HV Neon Sign Transformers & Cadaceus coils wound with Platinum wire from old vacuum tubes , they shut me down for another 37 years or so , with the promise that if I kept it up I'd never get born. The Nazi like thugs proved their ability to back up their claims as well...

JB
STRIKE
Great pics, there's something about a Torker, Bottema's and Tuff Wheels that just screams "early 80's skatepark!!" and I love that look.

Anyway, I don't care where you post these pics and talk about the late 70's early 80's, just keep posting pics!

Ok, I now command you to start an ACTION NOW thread and start scanning/posting. I would LOVE to see all the stuff I missed from that magazine.

Oh, and put the thread in the Old School Freestyle section! w00t
King of Pipeline
Action Now is the like the only magazine I don't have.. What's in there?
Jet Black
Action Now magazine contents ????
It's more like what isn't in them.

They covered everything on the fringe underground. Music , fashion, ransom notes , & almost every new emerging "extreme sport" in the US from August 1980 to Feb 1982.
"An ecclectic collection of fringe lifestyle & US culture of the time" might best sum it up.

Hence Stike getting stroppy & commanding me , instead of asking nicely to do some scans of the pix in them <heh>

For a glossy mag they were as close to the edge as you could get.Only the underground newspapers of the time would have had grittier stuff.

Ever seen a picture of Henry Rollins clean skinned except for the Black Flag tatoo on his left arm ?
Action Now showed me one....

JB
Haro#7
I am no expert but I dont think that 2nd pic is Fiola. Not to knock Eddie cause he is my fav. old school vert guy, but that guy looks a little big to be Eddie and I also think he did airs the opposite direction.

Mark
COASTY
This pic is eddie on much the same bike.
Jet Black
My bad , if you can read the script on the picture it was Bob Morales who organised the contest & Eddie Fiola
seems to be the guy credited in the photo.

I don't have any real "favourites"
Jeff Watson seemed to be having the most fun & pushing himself & his equipment to the limit at the time , so he gets my nod.

_Anyone_ who had the balls to regularly roll in , drop in , ariel , flyout , jump fences & generally do stuff that wasn't meant to be done at a skatepark whilst riding a BMX bike in the early 1980's should get an Iron Cross Medal made from a mix of cement , broken metal bits , ball bearings , human scar tissue & bone fragments , with sweat & blood stains on the ribbon for their efforts.
We paved the way for one of the best spectator sports ever created.

JB
King of Pipeline
Your saying that's Eddie Fiola in that last pic?
COASTY
Yep
He's wearing the same helmet as the one on the first page of this thread.
STRIKE
JB Sorry about commanding you and not asking you, but man it had to be done. Seriously though, thanks for starting that thread, I am really looking forward to seeing anything that was published in Action Now, but specifically the bike stuff of course.
Jet Black
No problem strike

I might be able to re-educate the guys who think that a 1985 model bike old school & let them realize that freestyle BMX evolved from a thing we used to call "trick riding"
I've been looking through the old AN magazines & it's not only the pictures that are worth reading , there's some interesting snippete's in text of how they think that BMX is going to evolve......
All that stuff will all go into the other thread in Retro <cough> "freestyle"....
Ground level trick riding was something that let you get a better feel for balance , smooth riding , momentum etc on your bike , so that when you were getting some serious air at the skatepark or off a jump , you had a much better chance to land softly & ride away , rather than be eating dirt or cement.
