I think Popeye said it first, but I'm borrowing it today. Got my full refund today.

Best of luck to all of you on your builds!
Capt. Nemo
Bummer.

I'm sure it would have been a sweet build.
Paperboy
Was it a quality issue?
Keep_It_Warm
It's ok Capt....I'll survive.

It was hard to stay anxious for it, so I decided to streamline my focus on bikes. I listed everything on paper and decided that this would be the one to go.

am i the last of the quad waiters
Capt. Nemo
You're STILL waiting DUDE? Everybody, I mean EVERYBODY (bikeshops) have gotten theirs already haven't they? ***?

Let me know if things fall through, I know where you can get one.
Keep_It_Warm
Might as well bail on Streit's James. I agree with Karl - it seems like everyone SHOULD have had them by now! He||, the have em way out in Arizona already!

That's why I cashed out....got tired of hearing "no, they're not in yet. we haven't heard anything lately..."
Keep_It_Warm
I should say that I am not instructing you to get a refund from Streit's. You can obviously do what you want. But they are readily available in many other places....so why wait on Streit's (unless you have personal ties to them, or want to specifically support them).

Just wanted to clear that up.
Woody's Hot Rods
I got my refund long ago.
BRIAN HAYS
They are all over Ebay now and I know of a shop in Seattle that has a few still..........

so what's shakin Tummler? we gonna see the bike with bottema's soon?
seracingman
I picked mine up today and its sweeeeeeet # 310.

ELF_DUDE
no personal ties to streits tom never even seen the ocean before LOL just patient have lots of other stuff going on in the workshop and have been spending most my time basking in the 91 degree days of southern ALabama I get back in town on the 9th and have a lot of planning to do on this years bike show. If it comes down to gathering a refund i will just put the money into another project. Tom i understand your not being able to wait no longer as it is hard for me to wait this long if it wasnt for my vacation falling at this time i wouldve probably pulled the plug when the excuses and run around started but thats me sometimes to patient and forgiving. cheers and happy easter
Capt. Nemo
I need to ask a question. What I don't understand is this: When/if Streits didn't come through for you guys, why give up on the project entirely? It's still about the bike, right? Or was it an impulse thing when you guys first heard about it, and now you just don't care anymore? I'm curious.

For me, it isn't "just another build" to add to the stable, but something I REALLY looked forward to. SAVED for. I guess neither he(( or high water is gonna stop me from getting something I really want.

Now this next statement isn't a slam on anyone, just an observation. Some have said that if it wasn't for the vintage bmx community, these projects would never happen, which I believe is true. But if we all come out guns blazing saying "YES I WANT ONE, COUNT ME IN", then a few months down the line, bail at the first sign of inconvienance, how many more of these projects do you think we are gonna see? Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are.

I spoke w/ DJ @ Streits yesterday, and he's not sure whats going on either...He called Fuji and he couldnt get thru probably due to the holiday, but assures me that these frames should be on the way, and ours will be sent out as soon as they get them.

@ this point, I still cant wait to receive the frame, but I'll admit the passion for the retro bikes is pretty much nill @ this point...I've always wanted a loop Quad, and thought that would be my opportunity to not only own one, but own one that I could ride, now I'm thinking that maybe the 4 hun that was spent on this frame, would have been better spent going towards an og loop quad...and after hearing of the flex issues w/ these frames, it may not be a bike I want to ride anyway. So in the future, I'll likely just keep putting my $ into the vintage stuff, and if I want a new bike, I'll just buy a new bike and put some old skool decals on it.
Capt. Nemo
I'm not sure if the flex on the new Quad IS an issue. It's chomemoly, it's SUPPOSED to flex. I haven't had a chance to ride the new Quad that much, but I can tell you it doesn't flex anywhere near as much as my reynold's Quad. I've never ridden an OG looptail, so I can't comment on that.

Unless you plan on getting an NOS OG looptail Quad, I'd be more worried about how that frame was ridden BITD, and how much stress the metal has been under, especially if you plan on riding it.

At least, with the retro, I don't need to worry about past metal fatigue.

I guess I'm more of a retro guy, because I WANT to ride my bike, and I don't want to ride my OS bikes all that hard. Plus, with the money I end up spending, I'd rather have something I KNOW wasn't beaten' half to death before I take it off a curb, or the double at the local track.
Tummler415
I look at the re-ish Quad Loop as "the rider" in your collection, and yeah, I'm sure there's a ton of "impulse buy" dudes as far as this frame goes, but to me it will be worth the wait.
I'm not looking at re-selling value or collectability or whatever.

I'm looking at it as an affordable chance to own a bike I wished I had as a kid.

People will always say, "well yeah, it'd be cooler if it was an OS Quad" but who cares?

Either you're in or you're out.

My bikes are for me, period.

For ME this bike is worth the wait, and it can be had for less than $400.
Spicoli
yea dont get me wrong, I still think these are killer bikes, and glad that SE did them...I think I actually paid like 450 for the quad and LGs, and I paid way back in Sept 06, and I also sent a deposit for th PK @ that time too. so I definetly am into them, and I cant part w/ anything so these will likely be in my collection till the end for me, regardless if I ride them or not.

I could have requested a refund yesterday, but I figure I've waited this long so what the he11s a few more weeks...I just hope it's not much longer.

but if I had to do it all over again, I wouldnt have paid for one way in advance...I would have just kept my money, and waited till Danscomp got them, and had my frame months ago. but whoda thunk Dans would be gettin'em.
Capt. Nemo
I just re-read the first 6 or 7 pages of the original looptail Quad thread. Looking back at it, I have to laugh a little.

Retrodave's comments about "the line starting here" and "if you want one, I'm the guy to call" and "all the people who've pre-orderd are locked in." kinda crack me up. I also love the one about " I've got orders for 150 of each, so you better hurry"

Considering most of the people STILL waiting are the ones that ordered from him is kinda ironic. If I'm wrong, correct me. If you were "locked in". Where are your frames? If he had such an "in" with SE, why wasn't he the FIRST served. I tried calling him out a little on that thread, because it seemed like he was trying to corner the market, and SO many sheep fell in line. I think he purposely fueled the speculation that they will SELL OUT, and someone here will be left out in the dark, if an order isn't placed then and now.

Then when the frames finally ship, where is he. Oh, that's right "He doesn't work here anymore."

I don't mean to slam Dave, I've had pleasant dealings with him. I just think the frustrated pre-payers are aiming their fustration at SE, and not the true target. I keep hearing the arguement about why didn't the poeple that pre-paid get their frames first? Gee, why don't you ask the people that TOOK your money. I don't need to pre-pay for anything at my SE dealer. Why? Because we have a good customer/owner relationship. Not only that, I paid nowhere near the $400 people are moaning about.

If I'm off the mark, please tell me. I know Dave still posts here, but not much on these threads. If there is another side of the story, please enlighten me. But, from where I sit, things smell fishy.

In my situation, I never said I was giving up entirely on the project. I'm just sick and tired of waiting on Streit's. No offense to DJ or Streit's, I know he wants to deliver the frames as much as we want them.

To be blount - as Capt. Nemo mentioned - I just don't care anymore.

I like the vintage stuff better. Always have, always will. I thought this would be a perfect opportunity for me to try something new because I was out of vintage bike projects, so I ordered back in September 2006. I bought a few components for it. I was excited about it for many months.

Then I picked up a new vintage frameset. Immediately I found myself more excited about that bike than the Quad. Searching, buying, trading to start gathering all the components I wanted.

I was still anxious for the quad, but more as a back-burner type project. About 5-6 weeks ago at the Indiana Show, James (Elf Dude) and I discussed the quads. He asked me what I planned to do. My reply to him back in late February was: "I'll hang on and wait until the end of March."

Well, it's now April 7th and the place I ordered from still doesn't have them. So, I did what I said I was going to do. I asked for a refund.

After I cancelled it, I expected to feel bummed-out. But I didn't. I expected to pick one up from somewhere else instead. And I still might. One day.

I will see no more retro projects in my future. This was a one-time thing for me. I have no intention of selling the components that I bought for this project - with the assumption that one day down the road I will pick up a frame and complete the bike. But that would be the extent of my "retro" collecting.

From my perspective: I didn't bail. I paid six months ago. I waited through the first 50 in which some were sold at NON-SE dealers. I checked in with DJ and Streit's Cyclery for updates for months (because I paid most of my money to DJ, not retrodave). I was always pleasant with them in contact and they were equally pleasant in return. I waited through pushed-back arrival date after pushed-back arrival date. I even waited after NON-SE dealers got their SECOND batch of bikes in.

And during that six months of waiting, my energies were redirected (around mid-January) to a bike from 1983.

So what can I say other than I've changed my mind at this point in time. I'll still gladly support SE down the road and pick up a frame.
TOMMY2WHEEL
Has anyone recieved thier Retro Quad frame from Streit's Cyclery? Does SE and any of the people that work for and represent SE have anything against Streits Cyclery, or it's customers? Maybe others that have canceled thier orders feel as if they were mixed into something personal they were not aware of or didn't want to be a part of.

I'm waiting on Streits as well. I still want the frame - I wish someone would be "straight" with me and let me know if I should cancel with Streits and find somewhere else to order the frame from. I was one of the first guys to pre-pay in full with Dave and I am still waiting. What gives? I went with Dave because he said he would be getting them first and I declined an offer from my friend at my LBS. Can Todd shed some light on this order with Streits?
Keep_It_Warm
I am with you on that one BUZZ and TOMMY....someone from SE Racing needs to step forward, cut the BS, and let the people who ordered from Streit's Schinn Cyclery know EXACTLY where their frames are.

Since Todd has already confirmed in other threads that Streit's has frames on order, it's all on SE to explain what the hold up is.
Todd Lyons
I will be back in Philly this week working at SE. I have not been there in over a month. I have been working in Cali & Taiwan. I have been finalizing our 2008 line of bikes.

I will ask one of the inside SALES guys about the SALES to Steits.

We have nothing "against" Streits. We have nothing "against" Streit's customers. I was not aware that Streits had not receievd their bikes until I read this thread.
Todd Lyons
Keep it Warm:
As far as you saying:

"someone from SE Racing needs to step forward, cut the BS, and let the people who ordered from Streit's Schinn Cyclery know EXACTLY where their frames are."

I can guarantee you that there is only ONE person at SE who is reading the VBMX.com forums. And that person is ME.

Were you expecting a personal phone call? Maybe a telegram? How the heck does SE know who ordered from Streits?

I have no idea why Streits hasn't received their bikes.

I will ask one of the inside "SALES " guys about the "SALES" to Steits. I know that everything I do is related to sales. But I do not work in the "SALES" department.
Keep_It_Warm
No Todd, I was not expecting a personal phone call from you. I'm not even expecting you to solve the predicament. I just think it's common courtesy to update a single group of people who are still waiting for some unexplained reason. I understand that you are only one person at SE Racing and that you are out of the country much of the time and you are just now reading this thread.

I have also said repeatedly in these threads (including above) that I have no doubt SE and Streit's wants these frames delivered to the customers as much as the customers want them.

Since you are the only one at SE that reads these forums, I'm sure you will pass along the concerns of the Streit's Cyclery customers to someone at SE that can get an answer to you for you to post in this Retro Forum. Someone knows where the frames are.

I'm sure you can understand the confusion from the people who ordered from Streit's.

Cant we have a Happy Easter TL i hope your question for the sale department helps to get the frames to DJ and the streits crew. As i said before this is the only SE frame to grace my doorstep any other SE frame i had i stole when i was a kid LOL
Keep_It_Warm
I apologize for anyone who might view my comments as out of line. It's not my intention. This thread was started to say that I am passing on the frame at this point in time and to tell the many others I speak with "good luck on your builds". Everything else is just conversation after the fact.

I have no beef at all with SE, Streit's Schwinn Cyclery, Todd Lyons, RetroDave, or ANY of the members here. Just typing it as I see it.
Capt. Nemo
Am I the only one that thinks if this were some private deal between two members here, accusations would be flying and heads would be spinning?

It sounds like the same sorta scenario. Buyer says "Where's my stuff?" Seller says " It's on it's way." Still sounds to me like someone took the money and ran, and it isn't SE. Didn't I read that TL had said Striet's had cut their order down to 5, from what, 150, that Dave mentioned. Just sayin...fishy.

Like I said, I got nothin' against nobody. Just connecting the dots that are available.

"I just think it's common courtesy to update a single group of people who are still waiting for some unexplained reason. "

-I am now aware of the situation. I have already copied this thread and sent it to the inside SALES guys at SE.

-I fly red eye tonight from LA to Philly. I arrive at 6:30am. I will be in the office by 9am.

-I will see what I can find out. But I can guarantee you that I will have a busy *** day.

Thanks TL for checking into this...

I'm pretty much coming from the same place as keep_it_warm, I'm a vintage guy 1st and foremost, and the old-skool is wear my heart is...I see these frames as a way to do an old-skool type build, w/ new-skool tech, kinda the best of both worlds, and for me SE is BMX, and the Quad loop is a bike thats always been outa reach for me, so I was naturally drawn to this project.

but, I have a lot of vintage projects going on, not to mention the family and work, so it's been hard to keep my heart in this project all of this time...and like Capt as inferred, dont think that some doubts havent been going through my mind, about the possibility of never ending up w/ any frames, and being out the $650 that I laid out for the Quad as well as a dep. on the PK. but w/ keep-it_warm getting a refund, and DJ seeming to be a good and sincere guy, it's helped to alleviate these concerns to some extent.

when/ if I receive these frames, Im not sure were they will fit in, they may take on a life of there own, and be built in a week, or I may be back on here in 20 years w/ a video of me opening the box of my NOS 07 Quad loop...

-Joe

I love retros. That's all I'm interested in. I didn't get into this project for one reason. All the frames are the same color. Chances are, we'll all have the same color scheme. I know it sounds petty but c'mon now. Some of us look at bikes as a piece of personal artwork.
bmxbuzz
Paperboy - If you didn't get into this project for one reason: "All the frames are the same color." You can always strip it and do your own color. Another thing. Would you be building this for yourself (it will be your piece of personal artwork) ... or, just for all of us to see? Its not like everyone that has this frame will be riding along next to you every time you go for a ride on it. Try to understand SE Bikes perspective on these low run frameset. Why would they offer limited numbers of different colors...c'mon now.
guest_070901
TL covered that topic in the past, they make their money on complete bikes. these specialty items aren't big money makers.

The paint isn't very hard. You could have the bike stripped in no time.
ronnymcdonny
Well, I just received #125, I bought it on ebay and it looks killer. This thread reminds me of my freind who special ordered a frame from a company, they said it wuold be a month, it turned out to be alot longer, he called like every week and was always ****ed. Fast foward 3 years and in retrospect, after owning and loving the bike, the wait didn't seem that long and all of those waisted times of being ****ed off have long been forgotten. Any way my 9 year old son is now begging me to build my reynolds quad for him. He races and knows all about top tube length. Does anyone know the paint code for SE blue or should i repost another thread?
Capt. Nemo
WELCOME!!

I believe C4, one of the site sponsors on the left, knows the paint code. I think he does alot of OS SE stuff. I think there was a thread in the tech section awhile back, too. Just try a search.

Have fun on that Quad!!
Todd Lyons
OK, OK. I have finally gotten to the answer on the frames that Streit's had ordered:

They didn't get shipped from the SE warehouse here in Philly.

It was a simple clerical error by the warehouse guys. We received over 150 frames & we had about 170 orders. So for reasons unkown, Streit's order got placed at the bottom of the pile.

It was a simple mistake & I was in Taiwan at the time, so don't point any fingers at me. LOL

Anyways, I talked with Streit's today & informed him that we have some more frames due to arrive at our warehouse in the beginning of May. I will MAKE SURE of it that Streit's gets their order this time. They're a cool shop. If any of you are still looking to get a Quad Loop frame, contact them. Some of their order isn't spoken for yet.

I also got the addresses of the guys who are still waiting for their Quad loops from Streit's. Tomorrow I am going to send out some PROTOTYPE QUADANGLE LOOPTAIL PADS to the guys who have been patiently waiting for their frames from Streit's.

These guys will be the FIRST to get the Quadangle Looptail pads. It's our way of saying "whoops" and thanking them for sticking to their guns & not cancelling their orders.

In the end, these guys are going to be stoked.
TOMMY2WHEEL
I'm starting to have good feelings for SE again. Even though I canceled my order with Streit's, I'm glad to see the other guys who have kept thier orders being taken care of. Thanks Todd for looking into this and keeping your customers happy with the retro projects.
Capt. Nemo
That's awesome, TL! I'm glad I'm wrong about the situation. This kind of customer service is another reason I'm proud to ride an SE.
lou
I`m not waiting for A Quad, I`m waiting for a price change. lol. That will happen someday.

Nice customer support !

yea Todd, that is awesome, thanks for everything...

DJ called me today and left a message "probably to give me the good news" , I'll give him a call back tomorrow...

Keep_It_Warm
Now THAT was exactly the type of post that "Streit's" customers needed!

Thank you for looking into it and getting the answers Todd.
Chris C.
I love a story that seems like it will have a happy ending. That is great service !!
bassnbiker
Do not know Todd nor do I have an interest in these frames but DANG Todd... THAT is what I'm talking about. Really a stand-up thing to do man. Wish their were more folks like this that flat TCB.

Taking care of business/customer service is a lost feature of purchasing items anymore. Great way to handle things Todd.
Spicoli
I talked to DJ today, I'm gettin psyched about this project again...
