Alright I guess I'll start the ball rolling on this thread--->
047- "The Praying Mantis"
Will switch to fire red or hazard yellow powder if it handles this year's street riding season well.
Felt great on a short street ride with a bit of curb hoppin'.

sweet...those things are built and shipped already??? Wow, that was fast...looks good!
That thing has a 1" headtube? I thought they were gonna be 1 1/8"?

You are correct. It is 1 1/8 but I cut a full length sleeve to slip inside the headtube for the 1 inch cups. Works like a charm.

I hate to say it but... You ever wonder why most things are made overseas? STR-2 never happened, at least not yet, and I won't even talk about the "other" more recent debacle.
I tip my hat to Todd Lyons and SE, well done!!!

Well, here it is, a work in progress. I'm still waiting for the cranks to arrive,( I was told the first week in March), so no drive train, and a new brake cable ( don't ask.) Picture it with light blue cranks and a brown sprocket and pedals. I will have updated photos when it's all done.

The grips, fork and stem look black in the first shot, but they are brown.

Raced mine today at the Florida, High Springs State Qualifier (35N). Had 13 riders in the class with Semi's. I took a 2-1-1 in the motos, and 2nd in the semi. Had lane 8 in the Main, and got a bad gate, ended up getting a little balled up in the first turn and ended up 4th. I didn't notice any of the flex that some of the other posts have talked about, especially on the track. If I had any complaints it would only be that it is a little short (I'm used to a 21.5 tt). Other than that, it rode great. Had a lot of positive comments not only from the 30 and over crowd, but a lot of 10-13 year olds thought that it was cool as well. 142 motos and it was the only one there, so it is definitely unique. When I get home on Sunday night/Monday I'll post some action pics.

Greg -
You're a good-sized guy, aren't you?
I'm around 230 or so myself, so it's nice to hear flex not being an issue.
A little muscle takes care of all that stuff anyways.
I doubt SE would take any shortcuts or put out an inferior re-ish.
You still have the cleanest & most tasteful build I've seen yet.
Mine is probably on a loading dock somewhere in Taiwan right now...ARGH!!!

Tummler,
I like that "good-sized guy"! Yeah, I'm 6', 235 lbs. I was actually a little worried reading some of the other post, and didn't bring a spare bike with me just in case of severe flex. It's only Novice class, but if there was any flex I really didn't notice it, and it for sure didn't affect my performance. I really can't be more happy with the quality of the craftmanship, or quality of the ride.

None on the gate? Surprising to say the least. I was only 13 when I had my original looptail Quad, and I could flex it all over the place. Maybe newer tubing, newer technology etc... Mine never had the little braces by the bottom bracket in front and rear, maybe that helps. Also I noticed they are not round tubes, more floval I guess you'd say. Interesting, can't wait to build mine now.
Also I really don't know if my Quadangle was mild steel or chromoly. I got it in 1981, and was the second owner. The original owner had got it for Christmas in 1979, and raced it the entire 1980 season before I acquired it.

(Hope this isn't asking too much) but could someone PLEASE post a scan of the SE Quadangle Specifications drawing/mock-up thing from the Jan. 1983(?) issue of BMX Action?
I'd like to see it, plus it could make it fun for everyone who THINKS they are building the TRUE "retro build".
thanks in advance...

Bob,
No frame pad yet. The layout on the Retro Loop looks a little bit different than on the original. I have an original camo Quad pad that I am going to play with, and see if I can do something with the camo material that I have. Those pics were taken by Tom Izor. He's been photographing BMX in Florida for at least 20 years.
Supergoose,
I got that jersey in around 2001 from Alfred at Retro Fit. I sent him a bunch of SE patches that I had, and he did the BW style leathers as well. For Sundays' race I wore a little bit different uniform with my Bell BMX III helmet. I'll post some of those as soon as I get them.
npsarider,
Good talking to you at High Springs. Both of your PK's are awesome.
Tummler,
I'll try and post a scan of that test tomorrow after I get home from work.

Bridge City,
Thank you for posting.
And thanks to everyone for the props. It was a hard decision to put those forks on there. I just couldn't live with the quality of the new LG and the retro Bottemas look the part.
Parts rundown:
2007 SE Retro Chromemoly Quad
Supercross retro Bottema fork
S&M Race bar
Lizard Skin grips
Snap XXL stem
Cane Creek headset
Selle Italia Nitrox seat
Thomson seat post
RNC Ti seat post clamp
Shimano XTR brakes
IRC Siren tires
Araya Super 7X chrome 48 hole rims
Phil Wood hubs
White Industries 16T freewill
Shimano DX pedals
Profile 182mm cranks
Profile Evolution bottom bracket
OX Industries 44T sprocket
Shimano SG-81 chain
Redline chain tensioners
If you look closely you can see an orange inspection sticker on the brake cable. I rode it on Sunday at out local track and rides pretty good. Definitely racable.
