Joe
been having email dialog with Todd Lyons.....i basically asked since SE was doing retro stuff - was there any chance that we would see a looptail quad.

Todds answer:

"Joe,
We are doing some late addition Retro stuff. Is the Cr-Mo Looptail Quad in the line-up? Could be..."

this totally pumped me up. i inquired about a few more questions, and then Todd asked this:

"Joe,
What do you think a good # of frames to produce would be? 50? 100? We want to satisfy the need, but we want to keep them in demand. Let me know, yo.

Oh, and the frame will be old-school team blue. Good stuff.

Post the news on Vintage if ya want.
-Todd"

WOOHOO!

so what do you guys'/gals thihk? how many frames should be produced? hopefully Todd will see this post and chime in, if not - i'll shoot him the numbers we come up with.

Totally geeked,
-Joe
Capt. Nemo
Yeah, Todd has had this in the works for some time. He e-mailed me last year about ways to retro-fy the new school SE's, and maybe that blossomed into a full fledged tribute line.

I'm guessing as far as numbers go, it all depends on the price point. The retro Mongoose was around $350, and limited to 500 pieces worldwide.

I think the lower the price, the more you can sell. Not everyone has the disposable income to buy ltd. edition frameset or complete in the $500-$700 price range that some of the other "tribute" frames sold for.

With the cult status of SE, and with the collector appeal of the brand, even to guys who don't collect the old school stuff, but would jump on a real tribute SE, I'm guessing somewhere in the 500-750 piece range if the price is right. it needs to be affordable enough that the SE dealers will be willing to stock a couple to sell off the floor, without having to jump through hoops to get them.

And, I've said this in the past, that I think Terror Squad members and their participating shops shoud get first crack at them since we believed in the brand when no one else did, and waited for everyone to catch up.

Long Live SE!

-Karl.
t nile
I would buy one, and I don't really buy anything "new'.
scottytbmx
They should never do a looptail quad, unless it has threadless forks and V brakes.
OS Jbay
I'd be down for one, 500 pieces sounds good.
HurricaneHenry
I'd be interested in purchasing one as well. At least 500 to meet the demand.
scottytbmx
I think they need to be easilly distinguishable from the originals. I am not just talking serial numbers. Modern geometry like the anniversay Redline squareback would be nice. They can still have the flavor without reducing the demand for the originals. You can even keep the original geometry, as long as there are visible differences, like brake mounts and threadless fork. Make it identical and I guarantee someone will try to pass one of as original.
retrodave
hehehehehehe. I know a secret. I know a secret.
Joe
C'mon Dave!! whats the secret?????????????
fressshhh
Spill it..please.
NBKA-SENSEI
i would be in line for one also, i alway wanted one as a kid, now they are to hard to get resonable....
where do i sign up????
retrodave
The line starts here. I will scan a pic later this evening when I get home. Will someone post them if I email them too you?
scottytbmx
I will. Mail them to me. I am in line as well.
retrodave
Allrighty then. As soon as I get home I will scan the catalog and forward it too you. shoot me your email addy.
fressshhh
That would be awesome if they come up tongiht!
n2o
I want one! At least 500 and maybe a "VBMXers get first shot to order" offer.
Profiler
Glad to see you back Dave! Hope things are going well.

Back to topic:

I had a quad to play around with BITD, I liked the geometry, it was unique. But I don't remember it having the mystique then that it has now. (another 'wish I had THAT back' deal)

Anyhoo, I think a Cro-mo Quad would be a BIG mistake. Alum was half it's appeal, the wild design the other half.

Looptail and newer school adds like V's and threadless forks, maybe even small bb would be cool though. I might buy one, but not Cro-Mo.

500-750 sounds about right.
Spicoli
Looptail Quad ?? I'm definetly in !!
Spicoli
SE built cro-mo Quads for years, I think they can go either way, it's all good !!
Capt. Nemo
I remember not long ago being called out on this very message board for riding a Fuji SE and them being called crap and how they will never capture the hearts of the old schoolers. I told people that at least the brand is still around, and with the right guidance ( TL ), SE can become a force in BMX again. Flash foward a couple of years, and now I believe SE HAS tapped into the hearts of old school SE fans, and now everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon. That's fine, and anything to help the brand to continue to grow is great, but let's not forget the true believers that never gave up, and give them THEIR props, and the bike shops that carried the SE torch. THEY should be given "first crack".

In my opinion, if you want a retro SE, track down your local SE dealer that stuck with through thick and thin, and order from them. They deserve your business for sticking with the brand that most people gave up on in the transition to Fuji.
t nile
I guess we didn't have the vision you did Nemo, or should I call you Soothsayer? Fuji SE's haven't captured the hearts of anybody. A retro SE has. I wouldn't want a new Quad, thats for sure, but I would like retro one. There is a difference. Who cares about first cracks, if somebody wants one, they will get one, just like the Redlines.
retrodave
Does anyone out there know how too scan stuff into the computer?
Capt. Nemo
I see what your saying Owl, but at the end of the day, retro or not, it's still a Fuji SE. Weather the new school SE's appeal to you or not, isn't really the issue with some people, it's the fact that it's a Fuji.

You are also right as "first cracks" go ( that quote is starting to sound weird. Hehehe, he said crack, hehehehe), but I just hope that there is enough to go around that even people not on this board get a chance to buy one. I've met lots of old schoolers that would LOVE a retro SE that don't even know vintagebmx exists.
retrodave
Scans sent too scotty. Hopefuly they will be up soon.

Profiler, Its a day too day battle. Things are going good.Looking forward too the future.
scottytbmx
Here are RetroDave's scans.

Capt. Nemo
Don't get me wrong, it's great to see pics of the '07 line-up, but I don't see any retro's.
retrodave
Thats because they arent released yet.
Capt. Nemo
DUUUUUDE! You need to change your name to retroTEASE!
scottytbmx
Yeah, you had us going. I opened those images expecting a retro OM or Floval. I do think it is coolyou can buy a quad frame or forks separate. I don't know if you could do that last year.
Paperboy
Yes! Chrome Forks.

As for the Retro Quad, it would be nice if it was something like the Kappa STR-2 project.
npsarider
it looks like an 06 but with different paint.they were suspose to move the brake eyelet guides forward on the top tube and the forks race/stem tube looks just as short as last years.i guess ill stick with my 06 till i see the retro frames.thanks retrotease.....lol thats funny
Todd Lyons
The Retro Quad will have the following:

-Looptail rear end

-Double down tubes

-V-brake mounts

-Non internal headset

-USA bottom bracket

-Old school style dropouts. But it won't need those droput spacer/wahser thingy's.

It will only be available as frame only

-I've got a mock-up drawing of the graphics and color. Somebody e-mail me @ tlyons@sebikes.com and I'll send it to ya to post in this thread.

Just trying to "Make it Happen" for you guys out there.

500 frames? You really think?

Oh, and can you smell the PK Ripper Looptail?...

-TL
seracingman
How about the 07 OM FLYER ? Any pictures
retrodave
See, now I can post the pics. The man said it is ok.
Joe
post away!!! post away!!
SLAYER
Todd, just sent you an email about a Mini Ripper for my 6 year old son. Need one asap.
scottytbmx
Are those washer holes in the fork dropouts? I hope not.
t nile
Well said Nemo, I apologize if I sounded like I was going off on you. I just re-read my post, sounded pretty rude. Again, I apologize.
Spicoli
that is so freagin AWESOME
Paperboy
From TL's description, sounds like everything everyone was hoping for. Yep, he's really trying to make it happen.

Frame and fork set instead of frame only would be cool. I can't imagine anyone using anything but a Landing Gear on a Retro Quad.

Now that the cat is out of the bag about the looptail PK, maybe 500 is a lot.
Joe
Did anyone email Todd yet to get the pic of the mockup drawing?
retrodave
No, why would I do a thing like that? j/k. Waiting for him too respond too my email.
Profiler
what's the material for the retroquad?
scottytbmx
Here it is, straight from Todd. Oh My, that is hot. Todd, put an order in for me right now.

scottytbmx
I think everyone's jaws are dropped and they can't type because their bodies are frozen in shock.
t nile
I got wood. NOW I am excited!
retrodave
Is everyone happy now.? Sorry I couldnt tell yall what too expect. Tod said he would beat me up if I posted anything. j/k. I hope that you all enjoy the eye candy. Please, remember me when you want too make those orders.
scottytbmx
Sorry, that was courtesy of Todd Lyons and RetroTease, just joking, Retrodave came through.
Atta boy!
66alfa_gtv
Keep me in mind for this frame as well.
scottytbmx
RetroDave,
You can put me on your order list right now.
