I'm new to the retro newschool thing (I'll have my first one build as soon as the Kappa frame I ordered arrives), so forgive me if this is an ignorant question, but:
Has anyone done newschool V-bars (other than the ones that come with the RL anniversary kit), and if not, why not? Seems like it would be an obvious and cool thing.

Almost no need to. The originals are all over Ebay and they sell for less than what a new pair would cost. JMO

I bet Scott at Kappa would do some for you though.

Awhile back, Scott offered to make a limited run of V-bars. He was very specific on dimensions. The feedback he got from the forum was they were too narrow. So, it never happend.

I don't think frazer means to reproduce an exact copy of old school v-bars, like you find on ebay. I think he meant a set of v-bars but made to modern dimensions and geometry, such as what Redline created for their anniversary bike kit.
I for one would be all over a couple sets of those. Shame the Kappa endeavor didn't follow through, I agree that these would be a very strong seller to both old school guys and new school.

I mentioned the dimensions were too narrow, and Scott immediately said here we go again, nobody can agree on anything... Not sure if he read my entire statement or not.
But what I had said was, why not make them 28 inches wide? Then the guys that like wide bars like me have them, and the guys that prefer narrower bars grab a hacksaw and they have their bars too.
One size fits all so to speak. It's a lot easier to cut a wide bar, than to try and make a narrow bar wider... 8" rise 28" wide, I know several of my bikes would be wearing them...
I have a set of Redline V bars and they are simply too small to put on anything I'd ride. Too low, too narrow, too much a swept back position, everything, they are just totally wrong for me today. I've also got Redline Stu bars and they are a little better, but still smallish.
If anybody wonders why all my rides have CW Pro bars, now you know...

sprinter, I'm the same way and hated V-bars BITD. I remember lots of riders cutting them shorter so that the grips were rolling down the bend of the bars. I needed wide bars to feel stable and powerful. I was all over CW bars when they came out. They made all the difference for me. Wide and very little sweep. I keep hunting for a set of CW cruiser bars for one of my rides but to this point, no luck. I keep looking at the S&M cruiser bars, they look pretty nice, but 27.5" is all they have. I bought my Kappa Gilroy bars as he advertised them as 29" bars. But they were only 28". They are also too short for my bike, 4". I think I will try the new Kappa GR bars. 28" wide, 5.75" tall, and only 10 deg sweep. I think they should feel close to a CW bar in terms of width and sweep.
I do agree 100% about a new V bar. Make them wide as hell and let us riders cut them to fit. Everyones happy. They would look cool as hell and I would own a pair.

I concur - 28" wide & I am a happy man, anyone wants them narrower they can cut them themselves.

Well, I grabbed 2 of the pairs he had left. One in black for my Tex Cruser, can't wait to get em'!
Scott is holding the other pair for me so I can have them powdered at the same time as the STR-26.
I don't know why, but these are a perfect looking bar to me. I love my Kappa Kilroy cruiser bars, but these are a bit taller and just look sick. Gotta love it when you find something that makes you this happy. I will post a new pic of the ride when they show up.
