steel frame.... will paint stripper take off the powder?
standardracer
yup and pretty quickly.. If you have a Ace Hardware close use there heavy duty stripper it will make the job easier than aircraft stripper... I like them both but for powder the ace brand works better /..... SR

Hmmm, the frame wouldn't be red, would it?
Chip
Aircraft stripper, give it a 1/2 hour to work and have good protective gear. Never use sandblast as it is too abrasive.

Ha n20!! You know it's red!!!! How'd ya know?
n2o
Just a lucky guess.
Ringer
sand if done intelligently will work, stripper is better though

so a media blast would not work?
standardracer
Media blast wouldwork but its gonna be a little more pricey than a $8 can of stripper and it might not get in between the welds.. Hey Bro when you coming up tp FC to check out the track?? We race every sunday evening 5;30 first race is free for you bro w no membership to try it out.. SR

i'm right in the middle of pulling the clear powder off a set of benz wheels with strypeeze. it works great.

p.s. i used the same product to strip the pink powder from a factory pink powder-over-chrome hutch trickstar in the parking lot of my hotel at the afa masters comp in austin in, what, '85?

that Torker frame? I was really digging that Jeff. So Todd bought it, huh? Cool.
n2o
Yep, Torker went home with Turbo.

Aircraft Stripper works the best in hot conditions. Do it in the hot sun, brush it on one direction, stand back and watch it lift. If it`s not hot, the metal and outside temp, then it takes a while to work.

I stripped a powdered frame and The powder was softened and lifted off the frame but some of it had to be scraped off.I used one of those fluffy copper scouring pad things to scrub/scrape it off,it was alot easier than a putty knife, with all the tight spots..

Some will come off easier than others, I've found. My gray GT was factory turquoise with a green fork (not the orig obviously). The fork stripped really easily, the frame I had to scrape, scrape and redip, then finish the nooks and crannies in the sandblaster.

I'm redoing it now---scratched en route to Rockford---and clearcoat and all, the powdercoat is coming off pretty readily, thank goodness!

Anybody have their own media blaster? Harbor freight has a small one for a reasonable price.

I've found that permatex/loctite gasket remover works well if you have a little patience, it basically takes the paint/powder off in layers, I've even used it on chrome.
