Jet Black
Does it look like this ?

Speed Unlimited aka Thruster aka early Hutch aka Drag & Rocket Cars , plus whatever else they did in their workshop.......

Cro Mo , nice welds & very well plated.

Just looking , I wonder how many of those frame & handlebar pads had the P in PUCH modified into an F , bitd.
Things from any Factory that left themselves open for abuse & modification were always taken advantage of very quickly down here....

It's not the one that Jet Black is showing. The one pictured above is a bike that I always wanted back in the day.

It's got lug welds all round !!!
Definately not something that would come out of the high performance Thruster shop.

Mass produced , I'm guessing it's a mild steel unit , there dosen't seem to be any lugs for a chainguard welded onto the frame so it was probably bought from a bike shop rather than K Mart (or wherever) when it was new.

I only visited the US a few times in the mid to late 1980's , so my local knowledge of these bikes is minimal , so don't rely on it 100%

There was a Puch at german ebay just few days ago. The welds look like "bubblegum" but i think the decal design is pretty cool. Also the frame looks functional too, i mean i've seen worse considering if it's a low end f&f. Wouldn't mind owning one of these.

That is an entry level Puch. Exactly like my first real BMX bike. It was sold in bike shops. It was also sold under the Scorpion name. Scorpion/Puch ebay

Didn't Puch also label an R&R frame in the 70's??

Thanks. I now remember the name. I didn't associate it with Puch.
WBL BMXer - aka Chucky
I just put together a Puch. The frame/fork was used by my brother (84-85?). He traded me the bike for an RC car after he got his driver's license. Don't ask me why I kept it all these years, but it is in such nice condition, I took some of my extra parts and made a complete bike out of it. All OS parts except the tires and grips.

I don't know much about this brand, but if I remember right, we bought the f/f as a set through one of those overstock outlets BITD. Workmanship looks good and obviously the crome has held up well. Took it out and it rides nice too.

WBL: That is one of the _good_ Puch's , that Speed unlimited made , Patented fork dropouts & all.
It's more likely to be a F+F welded up in the early 1980's (thats where that PUCH Ad dates from) rather than the 84 or 85 vintage you suspect.

Apart from a layback seatpost , you have beefed it up exactly the same way I would have bitd. I would have dropped the allow cranks , fit some DX pedals , bigger bars (GT Pro in my case) & fit a Tuf neck.

That's one very sweet & honest looking early 80's street/race bike you have built up there.

Don't let the PUCH name fool you into thinking the F+F is not a top quality US made frame , with a lot of interesting history behind it. They were making these when Hutch was mostly a mail order bike shop selling other peoples gear.

Jet Black, thanks for the info. It may be an earlier year like you stated, but I don't remember exactly when my brother bought it.

You nailed the parts pretty good.

Bars: GT pro
Stem: Tuff Neck
Crank: Thun cro-moly
Pedals: Shimano DX - now silver after a little paint stripper (not annodized like I thought)
Wheels: Suzue sealed low flange (chrome), chrome spokes, and chrome Araya 7x rims. (wish I had some comp III's)
Elina seat

I never liked layed back seatposts. Even though I'm 6'-1", I still feel good on this bike.

You're right about the quality of this F/F. The welds are really clean and I can't say enough how nice the chrome has held up.

Here's a photo of the Puch in action BITD.

Thun 1 piece cranks , now thats an old rarity from waay back. US made bike stuff attracted high import tax tarrifs in the early 1980's , so we never saw 3/4 of the US made stuff on the bike shop shelves for sale , only got to read about new products in magazines like BMXA or Action Now magazine....Apart from the way you pronounced the name was there anything special or differnt about them ?
We had the choice here bitd of either Takagi's or Flite cranks if you wanted strong cranks for your bike.
At $25 vs $275 new , the choice was kind of made for you as a fresh teenager who had just outgrown (broken) his alloy cranks.

The PUCH frame must have had a reasonable length to it , I built up a TJ Thruster & found it waaayy to small to comfortably ride around on , I stand 6ft bare feet.

The frames that came out of the Speed Unlimited workshop , no matter what the brand were always high quality stuff , I think the welders there had pride in all their their work , either welding up a drag/rocket car chasiss down to a "simple" double diamond BMX frame.

They probably did make a Thruster with the PUCH frame geometry , but it wasn't this TJ Thruster 17 1/2
in top tube length is just waay to confined for me to ride, the rear end measures up great , just too far too short in the front....it's just sitting as a frame now , I'm still wondering what to do with it.....
