Any good tips on getting surface rust off of stem bolts? I've been using the little wire wheel on my rotary tool but that gets messy. Does soaking in WD-40 work? I know I could buy new bolts, but I'd prefer to keep the stem original. Thanks for any tips!

bead blast. Harbor Frieght sells small benchtop models plus 50# bags of glass bead for pretty cheap. Still need air though.

WD-40 does work pretty well on stem bolts, in my experience. I'm sure oxalic acid would work.
