I have seen a number of bikes painted on vbmx that were chrome or polished aluminum. The ones I am interested in have a transparent/lucent type finish...some refer to it as candy but it's like the chrome or polished aluminum shows through. What kind of paint is this and how durable is it if there is no primer under it? Thanks for your help. I am trying to decide wether to anodise my Nomorea or paint over the polished aluminum.

That is more than likely translucent powder, sometimes referred to as Anodizing I suppose. It is applied with an electrostatic charge then baked at 400 degrees F for 20minutes to make a very resilient and even bond.
Polish the snot out of the frame before the powder job if you want it to glow.
