Hi,

Although, I've been riding bikes since the "converted Stingray" era, this is my very first Sting build. Therefore, I'd like to get some direction from the seasoned builders out there, if you don't mind. Please and Thank you.

See the pics for the parts I've gathered. They aren't all Sting original but I don't mind cause I like my wife and house better than bicycles.

1-Does anyone have a Sting headset they'd be willing to sell? If not, what alternative headsets will safely fit this frame?

2-I have an aluminum redline sealed bottom bracket set. Before I dig out the calipers, will this fit the Sting bottom bracket?

3-Does any know where I can obtain original or nice repops of the following stickers?
*Tri-Moly sticker on lower seat tube
*Main Tube stickers.
*a clean headbadge with "perty" paint.
*"patent applied for" sticker on bottom of main tube.

4-the blue KKTs are in OUTBID condition. meaning I can't seem to win a nice old set of blue KKT lightnings on ebay! (rivets not screwed cages)
anyone willing to part with a set for a reasonable price? they could be 1/2in because I have a gold set of KKTs that are 9/16 that I could swap out.

In the pics, the stickers look ok but in person it appears that someone wiped the whole bike down with some type of solvent and it ate the top layer of paint from the stickers. I bet that about made them sick to their stomach when they realized the blunder. The chrome is really bright for a 79 but it has normal dings of a bike that was well loved. The forks have a very large damaged area of chrome so they'd need rechromed eventually unless I can find a replacement set somewhere.

thank you for your time in reading this over.

2. Yes it will fit fine. Sting's have a standard American Bottom Bracket.

It's their headset that's a goofy size I believe. If I recall correctly they require a 10 speed sized headset, the cups were smaller in diameter than a standard headset. At least I *think* that was the case. - Tim

Oh by the way, if you post in the Vintage BMX Talk forum, you'll likely get more replies. Not that you are off topic here, but this forum leans more toward the restoration of specific items, fixing stuff type of posts, more so than build questions.

Hope this helps. - Tim

I can hook you up with all of it.

However, I am not sure I want to part with all of it.

I have blue kkt's used and decent. Head set etc...

They are kind of my spares. Shoot me an email. I can also tell you the whole story on the condtion of your decals. I know exactly where that frame you have came from.

Say pretty please and I'll tell you where you can buy nos schwinn sting head badges...cheap.

Pick yourself up a dura-ace headset off ebay, look for an old one, plan on spending about $75.00
