Hey guys, I picked up a chrome Redline BMX today at a local thrift store for 15 bones. It has a Suntour stem, Pink Viscount AREO seat, Sugino MX A5 spider, UKAI wheels, White AME grips and an almost "nickel/platnum" colored Dia-Compe lever, rear brake and two piece swivel seat clamp. The head tube has a sticker with an orangish/yellow R, the frame I.D. is 497138 with the oval REDLINE also on the bottom bracket. It has a 19" top tube. Can anyone tell me what year & model this is? If it's worth looking at I'll post some pic's.

It's always worth looking at...post pix.

Here are a few..

Pauly
Looks like a 5" head tube & tapered forks. PL-20?
Sweet score!

Don't know but it looks to be a step up from a TRI-MOLY frame.....

1983 PL-20, most likely.

Thats an awesome Redline score. Looks like it has Sunshine sealed hubs on UKAI rims too.......Very nice!

I finally took it apart & cleaned it. I was hoping someone could give me a definite I.D. The serial is 497138. I would like to by some stickers for it and put it back together. I have been told by a few local guys that it looks like a Proline II but I have no idea. I would like to get the right sticker set though. Here are some detail pics hopefully this will help. Thanks guys, this community is awesome.

Wow, that's quite a cleanup job. I think it's almost NOS now! lol.
Sweet score..

Hey Manyaxes, I have an chrome NOS Redline for sale you want to buy it?
mr coasterbrake
it's a 1983 PL-20 (the version of the proline, at that time). '83 was the only year-model to have that little gusset between the seatstays, with a little overlap late '82 and early '84.

Are stickers available for this? What would they look like?
mr coasterbrake
i can't remember the last time i saw the correct decals for that come around. you can get the ones for the step-down model (600) from BMXSTOP.com (over to the left<<<) that are close, but not the same. the biggest difference is the PL20 has a black/grey stripe on the top side of the downdube that is one-piece with the logos on the sides.

Thanks for all of your information. I really appreciate it.

Great score

The seat post is it a fluted cro mo one? If so they are a tricky find too. See the other thread for pics of these.

These are the decals mr coasterbrake is talking about.

Not the ones at the bottom.

And these seat tube ones are for the PL-20 not the Carrera II version shown above and advert below

Paul,
Thanks for all of the info. What's the chance of buying some of those stickers? are they available? The seat post seams like it is fluted. If you look at it at a certain angle it does look fluted. It is stamped REDLINE 22.2 yada, yada, yada. It is 14" long. I have included a pic. Also a pic of the pink AERO seat with the $15.00 price tag.

Score there - that set is nice!

Well it is getting better, the post is a good result.

As for the decals, the pics are ones I saved from a member on here, can't recall who now, but they are not readily available. You could either go with the earlier versions (red/white) or the 600a series III, copies that have been repro'd by Redline (they are not very good close up - but may be ok from a few steps away).
