i just got a mid-new school DB for some street riding from a friend of mine...its been left outside so theres a little rust, and pretty much everything needs re-greasing.

im trying to take the forks off to get at the headset so i can re-grease it...i have everything else off.

ive never worked with these before, so how do you go about doing it?

If you have the stem and spacers off, there is a small collar/race around the fork tube. The collar/race, pushes into the top bearings around the fork tube holding the the forks tight. try to slide the forks downward, they should come right off.

i tried tapping the top of the forks with a hammer (i seriously doubt theyve ever been taken apart) but no dice....

Probably gonna need LOTS of WD-40 if they've never been off. I did a google image search on threadless headsets. There is a couple of pics that might help you see what needs to move. I'll try to post a link if i find a good picture.
