Hey guys, any suggestions? The easy-off started working, I could see clean aluminium showing under the anodization, but now its all black and I can't seem to get it off!

You left it on a little too long. Use a green Scotch Brite pad and clean the parts under running water. Most if not all of the black crud will clean off.
After you clean the crud off with the Scotch Brite use fine steel wool to polish out the scratches.
When you use lye (the main ingredient in Easy Off) it's kinda like baking biscuits...you gotta watch them and take them out at just the right time.

thanks for the info, the scotch brite pad ended up getting it off with a bit of scrubbing.
Funny thing is while I had the easy-off on there I was wiping away the anodization easily in one spot thinking "wow!" ...then I went into the other room.....

It will always turn black. It is the alloying agents in the aluminum.
I bumped a thread for you that answers it all .
