I just got a set of NOS Legal Action mags for my "childhood" build, and they have begun to yellow a bit, so I was wondering what tips you guys can give me to whiten them up a little before I mount them...

I do seem to remember that my LAs were not as white as Tuffs even bitd, but these wheels have definetly yellowed a little w/ age.

heres a pic, the white Panaracer is also NOS "not yellowed", so you can use that for reference..

also, these will have black tires mounted on them, so I dont have to wory about tryin to get them as white as the tires.

I appreciate the help,
thanks, Joe

Do a search, there is a plethora of topics already posted on this. I recently turned a yellowed set of Peregrine mags to pure white, soaked in a bleach solution for about two weeks in a sealed large tupperware container. I also used Rit dye color remover and brightener. I started by washing them in the dishwasher. Don't tell my girlfriend about that.

I've done a search, but I was hoping that maybe there have ben some recent "breakthroughs" in mag wheel restoration...

I dont want to soak them because I'm afraid of damaging the hubs and logos, but I found this idea in another thread, and I might try this...

I use a fine steel wool with some "Dawn" diswashing soap mixed with "comet" bathroom powdered cleanser to get them clean. I just did my "Mike buff" Z rims, and they looked terrible before I started. They were yellowed badly, and now they look like new- just obviously be careful on the ACS logo's. I didn't scrub over any of the logo's at all, because it will scrub them right off! Pat.

What I did to protect the hubs on mine, is I taped them off with an aluminum tape used for sealing air ducts, then I ran a bead of silicone sealant I had in the garage around the edge of the tape so it wouldn't come off. i.e, waterproof hubs. Don't know what to tell you on the logos if it will affect them or not. Comet will work to a small degree, it scours the surface and bleaches them lightly so you'll get a little improvement, but I don't think you'll get them pure white. Good luck, let us know how it goes.

Keep them as they are the patina will look excellent with black tires to contrast it!!!!

I was thinking the same thing, heres a look w/ the black GT tires on them, they look prety good like that.

I'll probably just clean them up w/ a magic eraser, and maybe some oxy-clean before I mount them. the more I thought about it, I realized that I dont want to start messing w/ harsh chemicals on these wheels, because they were so hard to find NOS...

the "patina" lol...I had to look that word up
