Does anyone know the real difference in the mx1000 vs the 900 brakes. I think that the 900 has a shorter reach to the wheel. I am putting this on a GT Pro Series frame and fork. Anyone hasve any experience with this? Thanks, Mark

They look totally different. I think you are referring to the difference between an mx1000 and an mx900. The 1000 and 900 look the same but the 900 does have a shorter reach. The 901 is a later model. I think it came out in 85 and looks a lot different.

I'm sorry- I meant the 900 vs the 1000 brakes.

The difference is 10 mm in length of the caliper arm, that's all

I used to only run 900s. The shorter length means a stiffer brake = better braking performance.

Most forks work better with 900s too, but hard to find a 900/1000 set.

I thought they were fundamentally the same apart from the 900's don't have the screw and spring for centering them like the 1000's.

Length in MM's.

Length. That's the only difference that I know of between them.

Back when I was building my 82 GT24 I wondered the same thing. I ended up putting a MX900 on my frame, and it works fine. But, a point to note, is that it probably wouldn't work with the axle in the back half of the dropout. The shorter (10mm) reach of the MX900 makes a bit of difference.
It should work fine though.

And, yes, that is the only difference between the two. The MX1000 is 10mm longer in the arms.
