I am new to the forum and have spent the last several days reading anything and everything I can to help determine the date and any other info I can on my Trick Star. I have been unable to find a few things out and wonder if someone here can help.
It seems I have a 84-85 vintage pink Trickstar. It has green tuff wheels and overall is complete. Here are my questions:
1. Should I repaint or Powercoat. Ive read a few posts on if one should or not but not relative to my type of bike.
2. Does anyone know the actual color Hutch used? that is in order to match it correctly?
3. It now has a coaster brake. Should I convert it to hand brakes? Seems the dia-compe mx1000 are the choice of most.
4.I'm not sure I want to ask this but how much is this worth a range is fine just curious is all.
COASTY
Mate, I don't know about the other guys on here but I'd go with paint. Powder is good but paint shines better if done right.
If you do a lot of tricks using the coaster brake, then stay with it. You could splash out on some new wheels with a freecoaster but that won't be cheap. Depends on your budget. Keep what you have a rebuild if money is an issue. Keep the cash for stuff like tires, grips and paint.
Dia compe brakes are the ducks nuts. 1000 or 990's are the go I'd say.
Worth? If it's your bike from bitd, priceless. Sometimes memories are worth more than any amount you'll get on evilbay or the like.
This is just my suggestion and others may feel different about it. They always do which is cool. It'd be pretty boring if we all thought the same.
Cheers from downunder.

I am in the process of having the US hutch pink made for powdercoating. I have a color that's close to the overseas pink now. I haven't had any complaints with the gloss level or retaing the stampings and numbers, and feel it can have the look of paint with more durability. Most likely will be more expensive then paint though.

How bad is the paint on your Trickstar ? Unless it is trashed , I wouldnt mess around with a re-paint "it will only be original once" maybe it could just be cleaned & touched up. A few scratches are cool in my opinion, theres just somthin about the old battle scars, they give a bike character. Then again if its trashed, refinish it. As far as brakes go I wouldnt go w/ Dia Compe 990s as your frame & forks are not equiped w/ 990 mounts. you could go w/ one of those 990 adapters, but they look sloppy in my opinion. Dia Compe Nippons would be my 1st choice !
P.S. Lose the green tuffs and anything else on that bike that is green, in my opinion they do not match.
Just my $.02 Good Luck!!
