I have a pair of CQP cranks 181MM w/ spindle, 2 sets of BB cups (threaded for euro) and spacers but no bearings. They are tubular chromolly with a spider. Does any body know anything about these? I rode these in the early 90's on my Mt. bike and have been in my tool box ever since. I am thinking of selling them to help get some new wheels for my BMX cruiser. Any help in the value of these would be helpfull.

As far as I remember Cook's Quality Products came about when one of the Cook Brothesr left and went out on his own. You should be able to get $50-$100 for them. Are you sure they're chromoly? I only remember the aluminum ones.

Thanks for the response. I just put a magnet on them and it sticks so they are Chromoly. I do have pictures if interested.

I'd like to see pics of the cro-mo CQP's. I've only seen the aluminum arms myself too. I remember seeing ads for CQP stuff in mtn bike mags in the early 90's.

Gary and Craig Cook sold Cook Brothers Racing around '84-ish. The new owner, I think his name is Jack Whitman, didn't do anything with 20" BMX but continued with the cruiser line and got into mtn bike parts too. Last I checked on the CBR website, he was still making the aluminum crank arms.

I forget which one of the Cook brothers formed CQP, as I remember it, a few years after the sale of CBR, maybe sometime around 1990. I seem to remember some legal issue between CQP and the current CBR about the CQP aluminum crank arms, being pretty much the same thing as the old CBR's. The current owner of CBR is quite aggressive about infringement issues. Possibly CQP changed to cro-mo arms after the aluminum arm issue with CBR??
