Sorry, I know alot of threads have been done on these brakes, but none really told me what I was wondering.

This is the deal...I have a MX1000 rear caliper, but I need to put it on the front of a bike equipped with a POTS mod. Is this possible? I know how to change out the bolt and all, but was wondering about the clamping lever thingy and cable tension adjuster thingy. I can remove the later of the two, but does anyone know of a way to remove the locking lever thingy?

Sorry about the lack of intelligence here, but was wondering if anyone had any other ideas.

If anyone out there has a NOS black MX1000 front caliper set up for POTS mod I would gladly trade you a NOS rear caliper for it.

Thanks,

Grind it off gently, then swap places with the adjuster/cable clamp (get from a donor)

I found that grinding off usually resulted in grinding off some anodizing. I just did one and here's what I did:
1. Disassemble the brake
2. Wrap a rag around the sides of the brake arm and gently mount it into a vise
3. Drill it out, starting with a very small bit. Make sure the first hole is centered - very important. Gradually increase the bit size until you've got a mostly clean hole. I drilled out until there was just a little left, and then just pulled out the remaining pieces with needle nose pliers.
4. Mount the barrel adjuster where the anchor was, and vice versa.

You will lose the quick release thingy this way, unless you grind the rivet off just enough to extract the release arm before drilling. Then you can re-attach with a small nut and bolt (hardware store) and some quicktite.

..no need to grind...on my trickstar I just removed the cable pinch bolt from the quick release thing, stuck a regular barrel adjuster in its place, and put a pinch bolt on top where the semi-automatic adjuster went..just how I did it bitd..and you'll still have the quick release..should take 5 min tops...

Got a picture of that mod?
