What's the best way to get a nickel finish to look like new? What's the best way to treat rust that's taking over a nickel finish?
Thanks in advance for any and all comments.

I had my `76 Mongoose frame acid dipped at a local company for $10.00 and it came out great. I can email you some before & after pics if you like. I haven't polished it yet, I'm still waiting for permission to get the $500.00 buffing wheel set.

I polished a nickle Redline fork to the point that it looked almost chrome like, but the million tiny spots where the rust broke the nickle remained Motor City, I'm curious to know more. Did your frame have the starry sky of tiny rust spots that nickle is cursed with?
But then I have a Cook frame that appeared to be completely overcome by rust, and with some WD40 and some fine steel wool, it's looking pretty good (didn't have the spots).

OK, here goes my first try at posting some pics. Not sure if they'll make it or not....
This frame has been sitting in my cold damp basement since I had it stripped last summer, and I noticed that some of the rust is coming back, as well as a few new spots from something getting splashed on it. I have didn't coat it with anything, so I guess it's my fault it's coming back. For $10.00, I' just take it back and have it done again. Note that the cups turned black after stripping, so remove them if you like. My buddy & I have had several frames/forks done there and we have been experimenting whith how different finishes react to the process (chrome, Ashtabula, bare cups, etc).

once the rust is through the finish is shot.....you can polish it with slightly abrasive metal cleaner,,,,but the finish will always be shot.....renickel is the only answer

What do you guys think of re-nickeling a clean but rusted Redline MX2? It's pretty clean with the exception of rust on the gusset.

I think if you re nickel, you have to go for the whole NOS parts/stickers thing. I ve seen your MX-2 and I say try to buff it out as good as you can before deciding to replate. Its a survivor you know? I am going to keep mine like that, only changing tires and chain, maybe pedals only because they are broken. Are MX 2s cool or what?!
