i just bought a 70's mathews monoshock and was wondering what year it was. the ones in the museum are looptails and mine is not. it has the foward facing dropouts like the old schwinn stingrays and no serial numbers that i can find. could it be older than the 75's in the museum? i have pictures if someone can post them.

the looptail matthews monos are actuall LRV Moxie monoshocks. basically the same company just a slightly different design. the matthews monos with the forward facing dropouts are the older models i believe. i have both matthews and moxie monos, and im trying to think if any of my matthews doesent have the forward dropouts, ill have to check. as for dating them, i really dont know, i just call all of them 75's just because i have no clue....

the matthews would have originallly come with a girder fork. kind of triangular shaped with holes going down the sides. if you dont have the fork, ashtabula, or maybe a yamaha motobike front fork could be used. if you use a yamaha it would make the earliest full suspension...as for the gurney, i dont know how those are set up, maybe someone has some ads or additiional info on those.
