I need to polish my Goose, so I bought a buffing wheel kit, with polish. Not sure which one I should use? It came with red and white. Should I just try each one on a bottom part where it won't be as noticable if it damages it? I also need to know if strippers will blacken the finish beyond repair, or somehow destroy the plating? It has housepaint in the nooks and crannys, mostly inside the gusset area by the head tube.,,,,OS
Local chromer wants $125 to polish, so I figured I can do it. I am confident in my experience level, just wonder about chemical or abrasive effects.

I would start with a rag and 'wheel polish' .... something like Mothers Mag Wheel polish .... or whatever it is called ......
.
Nickel Plating can be very thin ....... I would use a mechanical aid only as a last resort ........
.
The 'manual' method may not be the most attractive - and can consume time and patience - but is much safer. It will work - I know of one person that 'polished' a satin finish Ti frame - completely by hand.

The stripper is taking off the paint and the original powder in the crevices. Amazing, hehe. I tested the red and white polish with a die grinder and buffing wheel. Neither did much better than blue magic polish and a terry cloth rag. Real close to being done, or as done as a hand polished, rust spotted, nick ridden frame can be. It does look 100 times better, almost it's former glory. Can't decide to repowder, or leave it natural. I like the natural.,,,,OS
One good thing, though. The couple of places that I thought were bad rust, were actually caked up greasy dried dirt. a little light scraping, and away they went.

Sounds like you had a result. Keep us informed of the final choice (I'd stay natural), and post the competed pics!!

Got hear late.....but....
Was going to say, stripper does not hurt the metal finish. Actually, if you have decals/stickers, those won't come off - you have to manually scrap those off.

It was already stripped, then painted white, then stripped again, all before I took ownership, lol. Whatever stickers were on it, are long gone. Sorry I really meant to get pics of it today, but by the time I got to it, the sun was going down. We all know how shiny chrome looks with a flash in the dark, it turns black. I promise to get some pics tomorrow, it does look really nice compared to when I got it.,,,,OS
