Can anybody help me with the info on schwinn serial numbers? I Can't remember what year I got my Sting.
The serial # is JOTO228.
This is weird man, the number is on the dropout not the headtube. Can anybody help?
Also how about mini stings, sx2000, and King Stings? Is it the same method used to determine their years? Thanks!

Sting Comp serial numbers are on the head tube, Stings are on the dropouts.
J0T0228 was the 228nd Sting made in October of 1980
I was told the first letter is the month, the number after that is the year, the T designates it as a Sting, T being for Tri-Oval tubing... the remaining number for the number of the frame made during the month.
A - January
B - February
C - March
D - April
E - May
F - June
G - July
H - August
I - September
J - October
K - November
L - December
As fas as I know the same method applies to all. I have a 1981 Sting and a 1980 Sting Competition.
