Always righty tighty/lefty loosy except for pedals and freewheels.
Axlepeg
RIGHT pedals, that is...And bottom brackets.

Freewheels? You sure 'bout that??
mnewxcv
so right pedals go on the opposite way? what about chainwheels? I know freewheels are normal though. If they werent, everytime you hit real hard on your pedals it would loosen. And when you put on a freewheel, you only need to do it hand tight. riding tightens it the rest of the way.

Right pedal is 'turn to the right' to tighten; Clockwise to tighten.

The left pedal is reverse thread: turn to the left to tighten (counter-clockwise).

Freewheels are normal thread, turn to the right to tighten. Like someone else said, otherwise the freewheel would loosen everytime you pushed the cranks and pedals......
