I've just got my Rickman frame, forks and bars back from the powdercoater and he said I need to let the the paint cure for 3 WEEKS before I build up the bike. He can't be right, can he? I've got 3 boxes of NOS goodies begging to be unwrapped and lovingly placed on to this thing...it's killing me!
Somebody say it isn't so!

With paint its best to leave for a few days but not powder, start putting the bits on and post the pics when its finished

That doesn't sound right to me. Is he a reputable powder coater? The process of powder being "baked" on means that it is "cured" after that process is complete. Nothing is wet like paint. Sounds odd. Maybe it isn't powdered?

Powder is cured as soon as it is out of the oven.
You can build it as soon as you can hold barehanded.

My coater told me I could build immediately! And I did, no prob. Although it does take some powders some time to "harden". Some powders stay a little "rubbery" and will hard over time. Outdoor specific powders that is. I've had a number of powder coaters tell me that. So yes this is heresay, that is what they TOLD me. But yes powders typicllay "cured" as soon as there out of the oven. Peace-out Steve

I WATCHED A PROGRAME ON TV ABOUT POWDER COATING, AND YES YOU CAN BUILD STRAIGHT AWAY. THE PAINT COMES OUT AS POWDER SPRAYED ON (VERY FINE) THEN AS YOU KNOW IT IS OVEN BAKED.
THE SHOW WAS ON AMERICAN CHOPPER AS SOON AS THE BIKE BITS CAME BACK FROM THE SHOP THESE GUYS BEGAN BUILDING THE BIKE.

I thought someone here said to wait a little before applying decals.

No need to wait on decals either.
However, if your using traditional paint on a bike they say to wait a week. The finish will release gases while curing which can be trapped and bubble up under decals.

I built up my Kuwa the second I stormed through the door with my F&F.
