OK, So I have searched for the answer to this and have not really come up with a good answer, so, I thought I would ask again as there may be some kind of miracle product been launched recently that you guys can help me with.

My problem is, I have a Chrome frame and forks that I want to paint/powder, I would get it re-chromed but I cant stretch to that kind of financial expense right now, so I want to paint it up.

How do I paint/powder a chrome frame???

Please let me know what you guys think.

If you're going to paint it yourself, get a good solvent and clean off the entire thing. You need to be sure all oil, decal residue, grease, finger prints, etc. are removed. I assume there is no rust. If there is you need to get it taken care of. I would suggest scuffing the frame with fine grit sandpaper. Make sure you then clean away all the dust. Prime it a color that is somewhat close to at least the darkness of the top coat. After primer is completely dry... paint it up.

If you are having it powdered, a quality shop should do all the prep work for you. They will not need to scuff the chrome.... but for a home job, scuffing will help the primer adhere to the surface.

All you have to do is rough up the surface with some wet and dry paper,so all the shine has gone, not too rough if your goin to paint it,and a bit rougher if you get it powdered
Hutch Freak
In the early 1980's Hutch decided to paint all of their chrome frames that blemishes. Most were white and / or black. Once the painted frames became popular, Hutch expanded to more colors. Clean and scuff the frame and you should have no problems. Good Luck!

Hutch freak, this is what I remember, only not on Hutches, I had a load of Raliegh Burners, and it was the done thing to strip the paint off them and bring them back to the chrome on certain bikes. So if the big forms could do it easy, why cant I!!!!

Cheers for the help dudes, I am gonna give it a good battering and see what happens...
