Do you need a special tool to remove the sealed bearings in a bottom bracket? I need to remove my dual pinch Flights,and I didn't want to get the hammer out prematurely...Thanks

I was going to try to remove my son's Redline cranks (he has an '04 Aluminum Redline Proline)
but it was nearly impossible and I gave up before I broke something...
