How do you take them apart?
Also I aquirred these hubs already removed from
the hoops with freewheel sprocket still on the rear
hub.How do I go about removing the freewheel without tweaking the hub?
Is there a way?Thanks,Darren....

Lace the wheel up, then use a proper freewheel removal tool, anything else will mess up the hubs.

Good Luck lacing the freewheel side up with the freewheel installed. Depending on your freewheel chances are you will not be able to get spokes installed in the drive side. With a standard 1 piece body this is not a problem. You can lace up the non drive side and everything will be OK. With a 3 piece design if you lace up only the non drive side the center shaft is free to rotate at the non drive collar.

The freewheel and drive side spoke flange on Phil Wood hubs are located on the same threads. Similar to a double nut. You may be able to take a spanner wrench and rotate the drive side spoke flange towards the center of the hub while holding the freewheel. This will loosen teh bond between the freewheel and the spoke flange. You should be able to remove the freewheel once this bond is broken.

Phil Wood is still in business. They recommend that you send your hubs in for service. If all else fails give them a call.

Are they the older, 3 pc body type? If so, follow Rays advice. If they're the newer 1 pc bodies, lace up the non-drive and try to remove the freewheel. The newer rear hubs can be taken apart w/ an allen wrench. The newer style front hubs and both older 3 pc. hubs have pressed-together axles and require an arbor press.

Why would you want to take them apart? Check Phil's website for service info and parts. I've sent some hubs back for service. They turned out great. They love to see they're old stuff and they will return to you like new.
