Can someone knowledgeable please explain (in very easy-to-understand language) how to identify a set of Redline Flight cranks from the years (1981-1983).
What types were available during that time?
Explain to me how I can be confident that I am looking at original 81-83 Flight cranks and not a later model, repro, or knockoffs.
I am trying to understand before I look to buy.

Just my two cents, there were two basic sets of flights: the 400 pinchless series with square spindles and sealed bearing BB and the 401 (with the pinch bolt), I believe the standard 401 were unsealed (Tioga and Hadley sealed BBs were popular back then). Later on, post 87 sets came with the Redline Techmatic sealed and flashy BB.
As far as the spindle and arms, no difference through the years I believe.
If a detail has been ommited please let me know.

Try a search for Redline Flight in the Tech forum. There's one I recall that has a picture of the arms at various stages of the 80's and 90's. If you're looking for true early 80's old school, you'll want the kind with the wrap around pedal bosses. If you can see a weld of the arm to the pedal boss (one on each side), stay away. That's a very late 80's early 90's version (I believe) and far inferior to the truy old stuff. Most people, when posting wrap around models on e-bay, will say so. It's a selling point. Just don't assume they will say if it's not. I actaully had a guy on this site say he had some NOS wrap around 180's. They were not NOS, nor were they wrap around and they were 175mm. Pitiful. Get a picture and post it if you need further help.
