Is there a difference between a euro bmx profile crank and the mtb euro crank ? Is the axle longer on the bmx version? There is a pretty good price difference between the two, is it that much more for a crank with spider? That's the only difference i can find, so far.

based on wholesale prices, that spider should sell for $30-40 by itself.

Let's see
BMX cranks w/ Euro BB for 199.95
MTB cranks, 249.95
differences:
MTB cranks you get the spider w/ a choice of bolt patterns, cost is 29.95
ALSO w/ the MTB cranks you get the bitcen (flush) bolts. Not listed individully but roughly 10.
As far as spindles, They don't mention axle length on the MTB cranks but the BMX cranks you can get 5.75" or 6"
So it does look like you're paying a little more for buying a MTB set. But I've always noticed that MTB stuff always costs more then BMX stuff, even if they are the same thing. My theory on it was that MTB's are usually adults w/ their own income where BMX'rs are kids getting someone else to buy the products.

yeah, i call that the MTB tax .
in the early 90's GT had the MTB zaskar frame and the BMX aluminum frame of the same design. i forget numbers, but the MTB was about $400 wholesale and the BMX was like $200.
i asked our rep "why the big price difference?" and he's like "...uummm, well, uh...".
