i've just gotten some rims with colored spokes. The problem is the color is peeling. I'm guessing it's paint or some kind of tape. Anyhow do you think steel wool would damage the spokes if I tried that to get the stuff off?

Hi, I have found that using oven cleaner works well on stripping anodizing from things like brakes. Spray some on, leave for a couple of hours and rub off with a nylon scourer, rinse under tap and polish. Not quite sure what to do after that yet as you don't really want to leave the alloy bare due to surface oxidisation. NB do it in a well ventiliated place and wear eye and hand protection....and a rubber if you are doing it in the nude.

You might want to check to see if they're painted or plastic coated, anodized finishes usually wear off rather than peel.
