OK guys I am having a devil of a time trying to install a Tektro U-brake on my 2003 Morales BTS frame. This same brake came off my Fuji/SE Quad. I have the brake mounted on the studs and the cable routed through the frame's cable guides, etc but I can't get anywhere from there.
Can anyone help me out from this point? I would REALLY appreciate any help any of you guys could give me on installing this brake.
Thanks in advance,
Brian L

I usually set the spring tension first by using a wrench on the mounting piece while tightening the allen bolt. Turn it to the desired resistance, then tighten the bolt. For the cable, screw the barrel adjusters out a good bit, then squeeze the brake calipers closed on the rim and tighten the cable on the brake arm. If this cable is too short, or now almost straight across between the arms, give it some slack and then slide the stradle piece up the main cable until the brake closes on the rim, then tighten the stradle nut. Tighten everything again. The last step is to screw in the barrel adjusters until you have the space you want between the pads and rim.

Ok,
Don't hook the cable to the brakes yet.
First, grease the posts. Then, put the arms on the posts and thread the bolt in, and tighten almost all of the way up. Leave it loose enough to "load" up the srpings. The area around the bolt you just inserted should have flat spots for you to get a wrench onto it. You have to turn that "nut" area to "load" up the srping tension. You have to turn each side opposite of each other. The right side (as you're looking at the front of the brake) turns counter-clockwise to increase tension. The left side is clockwise. Turn the wrench to desired tension (about 1/2 to 2/3 of a turn usually), hold the wrench in that position and then tighten the bolt in the center of the post. Do the same to both sides so that tension is about equal. Once that is where you wnat it, THEN attach the cable. Not as complicated as it sounds or looks.
Funny timing on this thread. I just got done working on the 990's on 2 of my bikes, sat down at the computer and saw this.
Hope that helps a little.

Are you using a 907 or a FX20?The FX20 uses a different type of spring.

i agree with Mr Furious, but can't help you on the 907's.
BTW: can you buy the spring seperately?
