Full Version: Cannot remove my pedals from the crank

Hello all.

On my GT, I cannot remove either of the pedals from the crank arms. Shimano DX pedals & SR one piece crank.

I tried pure muscle. I tried a torch. I tried soaking it in WD-40. Any other suggestions?

Thank you very much in advance!

Oh and by the way, I am turning them in the correct direction. I went over to my Hutch & verified that.

Thanks.

Not to question your observations skills, but double check direction before trying again. Then with the longest open end wrench you have, (not a cresent) put it on the pedal so the arm of the wrench is oriented a few degrees ahead of the crank arm in the direction that you'll be pulling. Slide a 1 inch ID pipe over the wrench. With the bike upside down, put your foot on the seat and give the pipe a tug. Should either break, or break free.

If that fails, post back and I'll go over the chainsaw method, followed by the Bronco procedure.

Hi like x it said check direction. On the drive side sprocket to remove it clockwise is the correct direction like the bb nuts.If that is the way you are going then it is just stuck.Best way is to remove the complete crank out.Get the tighest wrench that fits and place the assembly on the floor.Place the wrench in such a way that the crank and wrench form peak also note that when you put weight in the middle the wrench is turning clockwise.Once it is set up. Just jump in the middle of the peak or apply pressure the weight should release it.Just to make sure your set up right draw a upside down "V" on a piece of paper with the point up. Now label it wrench should be on the left and crank assembly on the right. The distance the middle of the peak off the floor should only be about 1 " off the floor. If it is much higher than that. You will not get enough leverage to bust it loose. If you try to remove it on your bike. The amount of force required is lost .By putting the set up on the ground. All the force goes directly to the middle .If you jump on it and the wrench comes off.Set it up again and use some duct tape to secure the wrench to the spindle. You can also put the set up in a vise but the vise must be mounted so it does not move .Pipe over the wrench for serious leverage and wala.Hope it works for you.PEACE

when all fails get a hacksaw and cut the junk off the side without the sprocket . take the crank out , replace all of it..
