ok, i'm having problems with my headset. the star nut will not stay in the steerer tube. it slips up when i try to apply tension to get the wobble out of the headset. i remember that someone on here was having this problem a while back.

what is the latest greatest threadless headset tensioner setup? no, i will not buy new forks with the threaded piece built in.

Phil- the star nuts will sometimes weaken and start to slip...easiest fix is to get a new star nut. Cane Creek makes them in different sizes to fit different fork I.D.s.
One thing you need to check- if you don't have enough clearance between the top of the fork and the Ahead cap, the cap will bottom out on the fork and pull the star nut out.
You could get rid of the star nut and go with a Head Lock- thats the long bolt/ bottom nut deal.

Phil, i had that problem on my Azusa, remember. you thought maybe the heat treat made them too hard and the star nut wouldn't "bite" i got a bigger diameter freestyle size bolt and actually put 2 star nuts in . so far it's working ok. if i have any trouble with setup, i'm gonna nickel plate the ID of the steerer tube, i know the star nut will bite into the soft nickel. i just don't want one of those other long bolt thingies....

I had one on my Mongoose cruiser, worked great but sold the bike a couple months ago on Ebay.

You can make a headlock from using stuff at a hardware store. It will cost about $4 and will last forever. I'll pull the one outta my pitbike and take a pic of it for ya here in a little bit. They look pretty good imo.
