Man this sux! I have what looks like 86 or 87 street beat forks. They are tapered near the drop outs with the skyway stamped on them in big letters. WIT me! Ok I am at home today trying to put a white Hutch headset on it. and the lock nut or the adjusting cone goes about a quarter way threw it and stops! At first I thought the threads on the forks were messed up but they seem to be fine Well this is actually my first resto project and I really never did this before. The forks came with what appears to be a nos set I purchased in the box .The frame is stamed 85 I know these cant be the orignal forks I have a white 85 with the lightning bolts stamped forks. It seems that the threads are smaller in diameter at the top and get wider towards the middle? I dont understand the forks look new ahhhh I put grease on the threads and tried to work it nothing Help

i could be wrong, but, sounds like the thread size doesn't match. could be the forks are 28 tpi and the headset is 24 or 26 tpi or even vice-versa. just a thought.

Werid is the heaset set fits well on the white streetbeat forks could it be they changed the tpi from the 85- 87 ??

could be, you have another headset to try?

Yeah I did a tioga bear trap that I had on the white beat ahhh Or could the forks be a reject or something ? Cuz why would they go on all the way up to the top of adjusting cone but no further ? like I said it appears to change in diameter toward the center?

sound like a defect, like somewhere during manufacture a lathe setting was off. take the fork to an established/reputable shop and see if they have the tools/ability/COMPETENCE to chase the threads with a fork die.

with a 1" fork, unless it's old french or italian stuff, there is only the 24tpi thread pitch.
wouda_littlejohn_84
run a caliper on the threads that will tell if it is off, and by how much.

Mr.Coasterbrake might be right: "sounds like a defect, like somewhere during manufacture a lathe setting was off"

Yeah, in all my years at Skyway I never heard of such a thing. If so, is this rare defective fork like a rare defective nickle? *scratches chin*

Please, send this fork to Skyway. www.skywaywheels.com
Call me first and I will give you a return goods authorization. (RGA)

I want to see this thing. What color is it? Got any pictures? I might be able to help.

Skyway, here to stay.
