i am trying to run 1&3/8" rims with v-brakes on a pro concept pro size frame. i have shimano deore brakes on there. they are about an inch too short for these rims. what are my options?

1-3/8" rims, as you've now found out, are much bigger in diameter than a 20x1.5 or 1.75. Tektro (maybe others) makes a mini v-brake that should solve your problems.

pgringo, whats your weight? Aren't you worried about folding those rims? I've always wanted to run a set ala Bubba Hayes SE days but was scared, sticking with my 1.5s and 175s. Is the weight reduced that significant? I'd like to know.

i only weigh 120#. i'm currently running them on my PK ala Bubba. i need to retire that frame though. the thing i like about 1&3/8 the most is that i have found the gearing that feels, to me, to be perfect.

Don't know if this will help, but I think that a 1 3/8 is similar in size to a 1.75 If it is, you might try running a 16-18 mm rim with a 1.5 or 1.75 tire. I currently run 16mm Sun rims with a 1.75 (in the back.) I weigh about 190, but I don't thrash my race stuff. For what it's worth...

try some different brakes; the Deore have about the smallest range of adjustment of anything.

Maybe some Tektros?

There are a couple of soultions to using 20 x 1-3/8 rims on a frame designed for 20 x 1.75 rims. Pauls brakes have more adjustablity than any brake on the market with almost 2 inches of adjustability. They are awesome brakes, but pricey. The second highest adjustment that we have found is the Odyssey A brake, and it works in some instances. The mini brakes will only make your problem worse, not better. There is a part called Troy's Toy that will also do the trick by extending the reach of the brake pad where it hits the rim instead of the spokes.

a friend made me an adaptor once, it was triangular in shape with two threaded holes that had bolts which you put through the brake block mount on the brake & a plain hole which the brake block went into, this worked on a 98 Ripper,oh & you need to make one for each side.

i'm gonna try a piece of 1" angle aluminum on each side. i got the stock today and i should have it done by later tonight. i'll post pics when done.
