I have a fork that I want remove from a frame but the threaded steerer tube is absolutely frozen onto the adjustable upper race nut of the headset. I've tried everything including using Liquid Wrench overnight but I can't unscrew the darn thing off (it's really hard to get a good grip on this thing). The guy at the bike shop tried for about 20 minutes and couldn't unscrew it off. Anybody with suggestions? If it comes down to it, is it possible to cut out the fork with a blowtorch? I don't care about the fork at all, I just want the frame.

I've had this problem a few times- heres what worked for me. Soak the heck out of it with penetrant oil like WD or PB Blaster, then clamp the top nut into a bench vice. Take a 3 or 4 foot long piece of 2 x 4, stick it in the forks and crank that ****er counter clockwise. It's worked every time I've done it.
Good luck- Pete

OK GUYS,
you can take your pb,wd-40 r2-d2 12'pipe wrench, torch, att, mci, liquid wrench,fbi,aol.com,atf, what ever !!! a new and best way to get it losse is ..... take it to your local engine rebuilder that does sonic wave cleaning. this is a prosess that send's sonic waves around the part and does something to it. it comes off with your hands .it takes heads and blocks and knocks off all the rust/slim "etc" off with pride.sounds weird but no poop it works .you guys can play allllll you want .but this is the best way.i think it is wodo but who cares
have a fun weekend,

Hey Pete, your method is still batting a thousand. The 2x4 provided plenty of leverage and I got it loose! thanks to all the guys for the tips, and esp. cruiserking with the "Coke Protocol"... I gotta try that some time!
