Full Version: Goofy Handed?

I know Dizz Hicks used to run his brakes goofy (front brake on the right) BITD, and I used to as well. Im right handed, but I do everything but write lefty. I was curious how many of us out there also ran goofy handed BITD. I know it limited some tricks for me, but made others easier....for example, I used to do a a fire hydrant , and when I got halfway around I'd grab the seat with my left hand (cuz I didnt need it to feather the brake) and because of this I'd be able to do McCircles REALLY tight, fast and spastic! Bar endos came easier for me that way to for some reason! Other tricks, espicallly links were not so easy with goofy brakes, like funky chickens into freaksqeaks, just because of where my hand was....So who else rode goofy? post pics if ya got and they apply!

Side note:I wonder if Dizz will be at the Rock?

I used to scuff with my left foot on tricks like Funychickens, frontyards, backyards, etc. Just felt easier that way. I am also right handed, but kick a soccer ball with my left foot. Strange one, I am.

Finaly someone else that was like me. I was and still am goofy handed. The first freestyle I rode was a friend of mine that raced MX and had his brakes switched to match his motorcycle. After I learned a few tricks on his bike I tried to switch when I got my own bike. But I just got inpatient and stuck with goofy.

I would have been doing a face-plant the first time I needed to slam on the brakes at decent clip.

What pros besides Dizz were goofy-handed? Wasnt Bob Kohl goofy?

Hi, my name is Timo. I'm goofy footed mongo.

Indeed, i scuff with my left foot on most every scuffing trick. It's been somewhat of a limitation for me many times but on the bright side, i learned to do many tricks switch/crossfooted before i even learned them regular because of this. Oh, and i have my brakes set up regular, left-front, right-rear.
For example, this weird-footedness (hmm..is that a word? lol) is the reason i go to Elbow glides thru a whiplash, keeping my right foot on the front right peg, frame on my RIGHT side.

Same with my skateboarding, i skate regular stance (that's left at front, right foot on tail) yet push "mongo" (with my front foot, but learned early how to quickly switch position for cruising & speed). How goofy is that.

I've always ridden motorcycle style brakes, it has nothing to do with left handed/right handed. I started on a 1969 Z50, that's how the brakes were, no foot brake. I'm right handed, skate goofy, and never realized there was anything strange about my pushing until a couple of years ago. I push semi mongo, push regular but do kind of a shuvit forward as my right foot comes onto the front truck.

Mongo? Never heard that one before....

guess im goofy footed on the bike... 180 clockwise... or you can say im a lefty.

at first i scuffed with the right foot. then went left. i may of been thinking that since i peg wheelied with the left foot on the rear peg. then scuffing on the front pegs would do ok. i may just try to learn more stuff with the right.

i did try running the brake levers backwards... just didn't work, or feel right.

I'm really strange here...

I am left handed---write with the left, always have.

I have the "normal" brake setup. BUT prefer right foot scuffing. And skate goofy, pushing mongo. Right foot forward, push with same.

Other things I do right-handed: Golf, drums, guitar, and using scissors. I could never "get" the left-handed ones, they felt funny.

Ain't that something...
Bedlam Bikes
I'm left handed and rode goofy handed most of the time throughout my riding days. I remember switching the brakes to the "normal" way to learn undertakers easier and I went over the bars several times pulling the wrong brake when just riding around.

Goofy handed I-hops

DitchWeed
I did I-hops the exact same way....and I just happen to have a pic from BITD!

I-hop variation in the dead of Winter 1986, special appearance by my tongue!

pre-freestyle, due to an injury i switched to rear brake/left side and left it that way for a long time. when i got my first actual freestyle bike in '84 i switched back to "normal".

Buff? Really? I never knew that!

Mr. coasterbrake you beat me. I was gonna say Mike BUff, I remember seeing him on a P.K. Ripper with just a front brake on the right side and no rear hand brake, just his coaster.

Weirdos...all of you!

Here is my situation....
-right handed
-shoot hockey left
-shoot golf right
-throw with right hand (football etc..)
-kick with my right foot (soccer etc..)
-ride ramps right-to-left
-foot plant & fly-out going up the left side of the ramp using my left foot.
-In later years when grinding came into BMX..I have to grind on the left side.
-drop in to ramps (footplant style) using my left foot, so I am then on the wrong side of the ramp, as I ride ramps right-to-left...
-ride skateboard goofy footed.

....man...I am messed up !
