I'll try to give as many clues as possible. I got to thinking about this bike when i seen someone abbreviate Excellant. The bike model was called excel. Not sure of the brand. Had a couple version.
There where featured in freestyle magazine ads. So they weren't deparment store brand. It had a acs rotor or acs style rotor. The color scheme i'm thinking of was white w/purple lettering. Any ideas.

Hutch Exel. Entry level Hutch freestyler made towards the end. I know where there's a NOS one built up, but I can guarantee he wants too much for it just like the Wind Styler that's also there. I think he's up to 600 on that one.
Was similar in appearance to the Wind Styler, but not quite the same.

The end of Hutch, that is---and not too far from the end of the old school era as well. The boom was dying.

Yeah, no doubt. That rings a bell now. What was the other version did they offer. I thought in there ad they had the excel and something else next to it. I can't recall. Was it the windstyler perhaps. Yeah your right it was towards the end. I think it was featured in the '89 issues. I think it'd be a cool piece of history to have. You don't see them. Windstyler seems to be more available. Anyone got pics or an ad. I need a flashback.

Here's the best Exel ever. I was sponsored by Hutch in '88 and that's what they made me ride. Probably the only thing stock was the frame...I changed/upgraded all the parts: GT Power Series cranks, Peregrine Super Pro's, Haro pegs, Dia-Compe brakes, Mongoose bars and post. And still the bike was a friggin' nightmare. Chucked the frame in the dumpster after 2-3 months. Heavy but weak steel, super slow steering for flatland, no 990 mounts in the rear which were industry-standard by then, stupid rear stands...shall I go on?

Sorry, it's been a couple years since I ranted about that POS. Had to be done.

LOL! Liked it that much, eh?
hmm...never did try to get pics inside that place. I wonder if he'd let me snap just those couple bikes.

I stood in the aisle at a toy-r-us one day staring in astonishment at a Hutch Excel, and knew the end was near.

LMAO. Geez axlepeg. Sounded like a real winner. I guess it's a good thing i never bought one. I just remember seeing them in the mags bitd counldn't remember who manufactured it.
Yeah definetly not a good sign when Hutch's are being sold in a Toys r Us. I guess from the sound of it you wouldn't want to admit it was a Hutch. I had no idea it was that bad. I myself never saw one in a deparment store or in person for that matter.

I had a really nice one I found at Goodwill for $5. This one was blue with white DC MX1000 brakes front and rear, Vans brake pads, Tioga Comp Ramp tires, ACS graphite Zmags, and all the Hi Caliber stuff. Ladder bars with the crimped centers, etc.

I have a blue one hanging in the garage. Missing wheels and cranks. If you are interested let me know.
