Full Version: Who made the knock off Haro master frames?

I have one that looks almost identical to a master with the exception of there being a flat plate for the rear brakes to mount to. Frame has super nice welds and is Chromoly. I will try and get some pics this afternoon
agentheinz
Yes, post pics! The flat plate thing makes it sound almost like a Torker, but then there'd probably be a Torker gusset.
Also...way back in the day ('80s) I was visiting my relatives in FL (before I moved down here) and there, in a bike shop in Deerfield Beach, was a BLATANT Master mark, hanging from the ceiling. Same green, same style graphics, twin tops, blue ano parts, etc. No rear stands and no fork pegs. Said "J-M Freestyler" instead of the usual and the crank said "Jia Maw". But man, at a glance going by it was a Master. It was THAT close a knockoff. I'd be blown away if one like that popped up here!
mrraceinc
I will get some pics up. I just keep trying to make it a Haro master. It is that close with the exception of that plate

In '85 or so, General made a bike that looked a LOT like a Master. Kid in my neighbor hood had one. Saw one on eBay a couple of years ago. Anybody had a pic of one? The ones I saw were solid white.

here are a couple of pics

reminds me of an early torker freestyle frame.
mrraceinc
I can't imagine what it is. Who ever copied it did it really close down to the two holes in the drop outs. Just no coaster brake tab and the plate for the brake bridge. Really nice welds and nice and light
agentheinz
Yep, that's pretty close...hmm. That's a big osh-a-kosh-a plate back there! All the way from in front of the seat tube to the brake bridge. Nice welding and I'm also not seeing things like chainguard tabs or kickstand mounts, so even if it's an off-brand thing, it looks like a well-made one. It almost looks like an idea Haro or Torker came up with to combat the crack problem, and how!
All I can say for sure is that it's a neat frame, and a skater owned it at some point.
mrraceinc
It does have super nice welds and it is chromoly so I am sure it is a quality frame. Just wish I knew who made it.
EvoSport
Maybe it started life as a 84 master and some one did some upgrades to it. is there a S# on it at all? or it could of bin a test frame.
mr coasterbrake
i think those have been ID'd before as a UK bike. UK guys...?
COASTY
There is a few on the UK site. I think.
bravo_pro
my guess would be a german centurion from ca. 86/87 .. they had nice welds , were 100% chromo and looked like a master ... nice bikes ..
mrraceinc
Anybody have any pics of these bikes?
jay47
I've never seen a frame like that over here , The haro copy frames over here are pretty close to the originals and based on the Gen 1 .The frame pictured above looks like a cross between a Gen1 and DP freestyler which has a very similar brake bridge /seat tube gusset ,made over here in the UK .
jay47
Here is a pic of the DP .......
mrraceinc
It does look alot like the DP with the exception that this has the holes in the drop outs and no coaster brake tab
RealDeal
Yeah and i dont see a bridge across the top tubes, but it has the same rear plate. Did DP make differant models.
mr coasterbrake
DP is the one i was thinking of...with that brake bridge deal.
bravo_pro
i think i know now ! at first i thought it was a centurion , but now i´m quite shure it´s a ca. 86/87 velo schauff from germany .. if so , then the f/f was made by tange/japan ... which explains the nice welds ... an underrated quality-frame for shure !!!
nice score !

mrraceinc
