Eddie Fiola was/is my favorite rider, and I always thought he had the coolest looking bikes. Being a GT guy, I guess I'm biased. I was thinking of building a PP or PWT similar to one of his, so when RL 20II Guy put his Fiola Rad replica up, I bought it. I made a few changes to it though, starting with new Tuffs (was going for a mag bike this time), NOS white GT tires, NOS DiaCompe MX900's, a Shotgun II seat, NOS Grafight 2000's, a different GT block (also from RL 20II Guy) and new cables. I think that's pretty much it. I took it for it's first ride today and got a few pics. It looks great on the wall next to the all black 87 PFT. Now I've just got to get a GT banner or something to put behind them.

Oh, and if anyone has a white front Tech 3 lever, let me know, I've got the rear and would like to get some white levers on this one.

Awesome bike. It must have been fun to be Eddie in the '80s, with a garage full of GT stuff to bolt together however he wanted, without worrying whether or not to violate a part's NOS-ness. Kinda like what everyone did back then, but he didn't have to save his allowance to buy parts!

I kinda dig it with the Tuff's instead of spokes!

Nice ride.

Has anyone built a Pro Performer with 1 3/8" wheels yet?

I've shown this before but here's what it looked like as I found it. I sold it to Stephen who saved it then sold it to you.

Nice build! Black with white looks killer! I always rode Skyway mags BITD.

Not Eddie Roman--- The answer is yes! I finished that project last year and had help posting some pics here. I think the topic was Fiola replicas. First I made it to be like Brian Scura white Performer about 6 years ago. Then I changed it to Josh White's Performer when he started with GT, straight cable with no pegs or platforms and did this 3 years ago. I once changed again to Eddie's 1 3/8 bike. I have not seen anyone do a replica of the 1 3/8 wheels, so I did one. What also inspired me to do one was watching the GTV Video. It is not an exact replica, but it is close. I did not run my front brake cable like Eddie did, also frame and fork is white and seat post is chrome. Eddie had chrome frame with yellow fork and yellow seat post.
I kept the Performer fork because I did not want to seperate f/f set. Last was tires, I used Comp III instead of snakebellys. I had this bike since 1988 and had bought it from a friend of mine. Its original color was neon pink. I also have the same Performer like the one Jamison posted, with chrome Ukai's and some different parts.
Building bikes is a fun hobby!

Nice Build Scott !That really came out SICK, So will you be riding this in the Spring at CP ?

Look at how much of the Top Tube is exposed between the standing platform

As opposed to the 86 Model were the standing platform tubing is welded much closer together which shows less top tube

84's are so Dope ! What is your Serial # ? I have an 84 in white with the original paint and decals and I would like to see what month yours is ? Mine is 684

just wondering Brian

Sweet build! I still think the old Pro Performers are about the nicest-looking bike ever made.
melvinsarmy
Thanks guys!

Brian, the serial number is a 12/84, so almost an 85. Yeah, I noticed how low the platform was too, I think that's pretty cool. Call me a GT geek, but it's really fun to compare this bike to the 87 PFT that it eventually evolved in to. The PFT is my all time favorite bike, but I just love the super clean look of the early Pro Performers.

I'll probably ride this one for the Central Park ride, but taking the cruiser for a long haul like that is also tempting. If I ride this one, I might have to "cheat" and take the subway up there.

Jamison, thanks for posting that pic, it's nice to see where it came from.
