I think there are 2 versions of the Peregrine cranks, right??

Can anyone post some photos?

I have a possible set of them, but not sure. One thing that I question, is that the back side of where the pedal screws in, it is capped off.

plus they had a large pinch bolt version and a small pinch bolt version. Then the splines dont lline up on some mis matched sets.

Hey Jay, got any extra BB sets?
serva

Here is a couple of different types.

this is what you have to look out for if you are trying to make pairs out of odd crank arms..

Ahh, I was emersed in this perplexing situation a few months ago too. Scott (Serva) was a HUGE help to me.

Here is the challenge:

There are two different splines using different arrangements of keyways.

In additon to this........the arms have these variations to consider..

1. Arm Length (obvious)
2. Open / Closed Pedal Boss
3. Single / Double Sticker Depressions
4. Small / Large Arm Pinch Bolt

I don't want to get all "mathematic" on everyone but some of these features are mutually exclusive - meaning maybe all "large pinch bolt" arms are also double sticker type?

Anyway, without getting into permutation /combination calculations - it makes it fairly difficult to match up arms and spindles once they have been broken up.

UNLESS, you've got Serva as a friend, then you're in business!

It took me FOREVER to get my matching set of arms, spindle, BB, and chainwheel.

Chev-- are you going dennis miller on us here? permutation??

forgive me for being ignorant but i feel like im in an 1800th century dungeon and galileo is rubbing my feet with numbus oils chanting yubba yubba.

Cool - thanks for all the help and photos.

I got a set that was on a Mongoose Menace frame set. I think the Menace is a 1990. Serial is LY 90####.

It has the capped off ends, double stickers, and larger pintch, and unsealed bearings with a thick bearing cup than normal too.

What era are these, would they have come on this Menace, or did someone add these?

Stephen
mr coasterbrake
they were added. a Menace was a low-end bike.

Serva is my friend and he heped me match a pair.

There are two rules for building oldschool bikes.

#1. Make friends with Serva

#2. Build

Does anyone know if all types of Peregrine cranks are supposed to have those little cups that go into the end of the crank arms, right between the bolts and the arm?

I just got a bike with these cranks on it and the left (non drive side) crank arm is a little loose. I don't want to tighten it too hard and break it. I noticed that these don't have those little cups and was wondering if that might be the problem.

Mine are the same type as the one on the left side on Serva's picture.

When I removed my outer locking bolt, the arms came right off - as if the person never had the pintch'es tight enough.

I am fighting the BB's now, the one side has a resesed lock nut, and the BB cup is in the way. THey have sealed Anlun BB's.....
