Does anyone remember when Brian Blyther was on Huffy there was how to shot of him doing a Tailwhip in I think in "Freestylin"...He had no front brakes and I rememeber he had Tioga Comp St Tires . I am pretty sure he was the first to do a Tailwhip on ground ? Does anyone have any pics of this mag or which magazine it was in ?

First or second issue of Freestylin'. 1984. I have it in the basement. We'll have to ask him what bike it was (with huffy stickers).

Before that issue came out the trick was somehow known in GG park. Bryce Kanights of Thrasher magazine fame deemed it "swing-frame".

Howdy Drob!

Just for the record, in the article above it says... "Brian Blyther should probably get full credit for coming up with this trick 'cause we saw him do it first at last year's ESPN/Jag World Championships."

This is the "Summer 1984" issue, so that would put the first documented tailwhip sometime in 1983 or so?
STRIKE
Keith, IIRC the page that accompanies the above page (pg. 42) is simply a small interview with Brian and doesn't mention the tailwhip at all...of course my memory isn't what it used to be.

The first tailwhip air that I have ever seen documented...MIKE DOMINGUEZ

Nobody was doing these except for Mike and until around 1987 they started showing up again.

Sure, he doesn't pull it...but that's in the corner of the square bowl of the Combi. Yikes! Didn't that thing have like 4 feet of vert?
J.T.
He almost pulls it and yes the combi had at least three feet of vert. I rode it in '85 and talk about tough! It is very slick in there and Mike rode it so effortlessly. Also when he gaps the entry way in the AFA vid, that is only three feet high and lands it perfectly!
