Hey Woody, you need to get that stick out of your daughter's eye!! Can't wait for you to explain that one to your doctor!!

"Well, we were in the snow and my wife was taking a picture and this red stick, from out of no where, just fell and hit my little girl in the eye."

Doctor says, "Yeah right, explain that to human services!!"

LOL!!

I actually got to talk with you on the phone once. I didn't realize it was you until I hung up. I had called about a show Team Giant was doing for a Jeep Camp in Branson. I think someone named Reuben answered and told me to hold on, then the next voice said, "This is Woody..." When I got off the phone I was like, "Oh my god, I just had a conversation with Woody Itson!"

Hey Woody, great to see you around again! If you talk to Brian, ask him about Brian P's annual bbq. Maybe you can hitch a flight out with him for that this fall! The Trick Star display was in full force. Maurice was there too, along with the Plywood Hoods.

Joe, I have been running freestyle teams for the past 14 years. I was at GT for 9 years running the GT Bicycles Air Show and for the past 5 years I was running my own team, the Giant Bicycles Stunt Show. My deal with Giant ended on Dec 31 of last year. We are currently working with a couple people on a new deal. Once I get things finalized, I will let everyone know.

As for the pic with my kids, I never even noticed the red shovel in the background. The was the first time my kids got to play in the snow. We were actually at the ZOO in Big Bear, CA. That place was really cool. I was surprised you could get so close to the animals there.

I remember those camp jeep shows. Although I didn't make it out there myself, I heard they were pretty cool events for Jeep owners. My riders always ended up having a great time. The other person on the phone you spoke with was Robert Castillo. He has been working with me for the past 12 years. W

Woody,

Glad to see you around this board. Hope more icons from BITD join the group.

Anyway you could give us a brief history of your riding career after losing the magazine coverage of 89/90?

As an East Coast rider, my only updates on the original pro riders was from magazine and competition coverage, but around 89/90 that all came to an abrupt halt. Left us wondering if the you guys were retired, underground or even dead?

I recall reading that you had taken a year off around that time to ride for just yourself. Can you elaborate?

And finally.....
do you still ride?
what kind of style or tricks?
what kind of bike? old or new?

One of my favorite Woody stories was from Mat Hoffman's warehouse in the early 90's. A bunch of people were there yelling "Woody! Woody!". Woody was just hanging, like most of us, and a bunch of people were hassling him to ride.

Finally, Woody said to one of them "I'll bet you $ that I can do a 360 air on the ramp. Woody grabbed a bike, rolled up and down the ramp, spun a perfect 360, rolled out fakie, put down the bike and collected his money, shutting everyone down who had been heckling him.

Nice.

My fav Woody story,,,,

I ran into Woody at a Rockville show. I was on my CW California and he actually teased me about it. I pulled three or four rad tricks ( I dont remember which ones ) with out a hitch. Woody says

" Well you sure know what you are doing with it though " with a look of surprise.

My favorite Woody story... after their show was over in our locale, Woody, Dominguez and some other guy from Oakley whose name I don't remember, came over to ride some of our local jumps. I am sure that our "jumps" were ridiculous to them, in California you have canyons, in flat Illinois, if it was two feet tall it was huge.

We all just hung out and all took turns on one particular jump, and we were all amazed at how high these guys could get and how soft they would land, it was incredible. Dominguez was doing crazy things like 8 or 10 feet high 180s, landing on the front wheel only, and rolling a backward nosewheelie until he decided to stop.

It was really strange to see these full-on freestyle bikes being ridden in the dirt! Woody's pink trick star in a plate-flat tabletop turndown off a dirt jump was a very weird sight. Woody is known as one of THE top flatlanders of all time, but I think he is often overlooked for his air skills. The guy could boost. To see the things he could do off this dirt jump was an education!

But what impressed me most is his class. He never swore, he had a great demeanor and was really positive, friendly, mature, never anything negative from him at all, and just a "hey guys I'm one of you" attitude. Ever since then, and seeing him now, with his family and work, everything I ever hear from him just reaffirms that. You're a class dude, Woodrow!

Oh yeah, I thoguht he was great cause he drove a VW Scirrocco just like the one I had. lol
