I've uploaded a video I found when I was going through some old footage for Mikko.

Ramp City on Good Company

Ramp City was one of America's first indoor skateparks and was located in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. This clip from "Good Company" shows the ramp that was destined for greatness since Ramp City was the original location for the first King Of Vert contest.

In this clip you see Charlie Kasbohn who started Ramp City along with Marty Schlesinger (Haro Jersey). You also see Dale Matson (White Mag) who went on to win the first ever King Of Vert on this very ramp which was relocated to Le Suer, Minnesota after Ramp City closed.

I lived in EP, but Ramp City was before my time there. Where was it located?

Right on KRT!!!!
I am stoked to see what you have dug up, I found a 10 second clip of MD's rafter plant. Shivers man, shivers!!!!

That was the first WIDE half I ever rode. It was scarier in Le Sueur with the rafters.

Krt, shouldn't you have some footage of riding at your half?
Krt Schmidt
I'm not sure exactly where it was but I remember at that age it seemed very far away!

JT are you talking about footage of you at my home ramp? I'm going through about 300 VHS tapes and if your in there I'll let you know.
J.T.
Yeah, I first met you at the 1985 MN Freestyle contest where Marty and Dale had a high air comp. We headed over to your ramp later or that weekend to rip it up there.

Here's a flashback to 1985 with the actual T-shirt I won for flatland on the left and a BMXA Trick Team shirt.

That weekend was so gnarly and wish we had more footage. That was Trevor Meyer's first contest too!

Ahh yes, Ramp City. I recall going up there a couple of times...living in Rochester it was a long haul, but well worth it. It was the first time I had ever seen Dennis McCoy ride in person...good times.

At first, I thought that the announcer was going to actually ride that skateboard in standing up lol, I thought "damn he's got some balls" but then he knelt on it. Although I have to say, he rode Charlie's bike in like a champ.

Great footage Krt, I can't wait to see what else you come up with.

Yeah I met Dennis there for the first time too. He was so hyper and his flatland was like watching a magic show. Unbelievable stuff! I would have been a great place for the first KOV but alas it wasn't meant to be...

That ramp and the TOL inspired our half, it was 56 feet long, 8 ft trannys, 8x20 decks, 20' wide w/ a channel. We had just finished framing the flat and one wall of the transistions when we went to the 2HIP.
The Le Sewer KOV was incredible, I can only imagine how nuts it would have been at RC. But then there wouldn't have been rafter plants or the flat session we witnessed behind the ramp.

I went there about 4 times, right in the dead of winter. Great place that's for sure. My highlight was seeing Dennis McCoy there a few times. He was just sick even back then. I got a few pics I should post.

That annoucer has some guts there, for even trying. He was almost better than Charlie.

Had a friendly game of Flatland going with Randy Tishman. The "Randy Roll" didn't work too well in the dirt at Le Sueur.

Randy was totally cool and getting some high are too until he crashed into the gap. I'll see what I can find...if I ever have the time!!!

He was riding really well that day, super smooth and high. That crash wasn't just a little crash, it was more like a smash. I was suprised he didn't get knocked out.
bmx-bandit
Yeah, Randy Tischman. He just had such a different style. He definitly had the tricks and the air. I do remember his crash in the gap, at the K O V.
What kind of canyon was that anyway? Who forgot to put the roll in, in there. Just a big open space. Randy T. was the only one to get sucked in by it.
RIDE A BIKE
Randy Tischman was a Good Rider BITD in Chicago I rode with him and his crew on oak street beach! Man the Good old days
bmx-bandit
Oh yeah, He was so good at flatland. And his airs were so good. Definitly an awesome rider. The Randy Roll, will always be hot....

While searching for my photo archives I did find this shot of Josh White. In '86 I thought that was the best half I ever rode.

Josh was very smooth and had a lot of variations. GuyB, Windy, and John Ker gettin' some shots.

Holy cow, Great shot JT. That is soo cool. THat brings back some memories. We should start a thread on the first 2-hip.. Great shot....look at that air...
mikkopeters
Is that RetroBMX in the turquiose shirt to the left of John "it's pronounced car, not kerrrr, kid" Ker?

John was actually really cool to talk to that day, Windy... whoa. That was rad.

We gotta start a 20th Anniversary thread.
