Full Version: Stupid ?'s about Flight cranks...

Ok, so I have a set of Redline cranks... and need some basic answers about installation. I have never owned 3pc cranks.

1. Where do the gold colored spacers fit? Two are the same thickness, one is thinner. They seem to be larger than the end of the arm which might make it look sloppy. However, I believe one fat one takes up the space between the arm and the chainwheel, the other two go together on the other side to provide the proper spacing for width off the spindle.

2. Do I need a use a washer (lock washer?) on the bolt that holds the chainwheel on?

If someone has pix of the spindle-arm connection point that might help.

Thanks,
Jamison

1. The gold washers are not oem Redline equipment, "from what I can see." To find out which washers go where isn't predetermined you will need to get the cups bearings and float spacer installed and then get your drive side arm with your choice of disc/chainwheel, put your rearwheel in place and find your chain alignment. Usually one oem washer on the disc side and then 2 or 3 on the nondisc side to compensate for the the 2-3mms from the disc.
2. The disc bolt shouldn't have a lockwasher.
Another thing you need to watch is that these cranks are mean't to have a Flite wheel that is why they have that funny bevel on the area where the crank arm meets the disc that bolts on which fits perfect into the flite wheel, if you run a normal disc/spider or a different chainwheel you may need to put the adapter on the crank arm side of the disc to compensate for the bevel, sometimes you need to put a washer in between the disc bolt to get it to run straight.
If you lived closeby I'd come over and show you what I'm talking about, but the above comments will haveto do.

So I was close in my assumptions.

Maybe now I need to track down a Flite chainwheel...but I doubt I will do that as I'm cheap-LOL.

Thanks for the input...and if somebody has a Flite wheel they want to sell cheap...

Jamison,

I have a few of them lying around. Let me dig them out... do you need it before the bbq? If not, i can bring them there and you can have one if you like it. I have no need for them.

No, I think I can wait until then...I've decided to use this crank on a different project.

Thanks man,
